Excuse me, but I seem to have lost my blogging mojo.
I think most bloggers can relate to this- certain weeks or months just provide really good content, or some days you’re just more excited to blog than others. And then sometimes, life takes over and your time at the computer takes a backseat. That’s kind of what’s happened to me.
Up until this summer, I didn’t have a ton of timed commitments and could basically devote as much free time as I wanted to blogging. (College life is a beautiful thing, isn’t it?) When I started school in July, I didn’t really realize how much it would start to take over my life. Beyond the time I actually spend there, there’s travel time, homework, Friday Night Dinners, stewarding hours…don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining! I’m enjoying everything that I learn, and I know that most people have to deal with the same sort of schedule in a 9 to 5 job. I guess I’m just adjusting to this sort of schedule, though in the meantime, it’s become more difficult to fit in blogging and have a life, and the latter is always more important.
So I just wanted to let you all know that if I’m not commenting or tweeting or posting as often, no worries- I’m still reading all the posts in my reader, and I still look forward to the time I do have to sit down and write good content. I’m sure the mojo will be back eventually, but until then, thanks for sticking around

In other news, last night I went to see the movie Drive with my friend Jillian. Ryan Gosling looking all brooding and melancholy? Sign me up.
I’d heard the movie was violent, so I expected it to be in a car-chase-with-guns sort of way. A Fast and the Furious on steroids, if you will. Um, not so much. The movie started of slow but with a pretty good storyline, and then in five minutes went into crazy-gore mode, with people getting graphically shot in the head and beaten with hammers. I actually ended up leaving the theater before the end of the movie because I couldn’t handle it…and this comes from someone who loves movies like The Departed and The Boondock Saints. If you have a strong stomach I think it was still a good movie with an interesting plot (I actually sat in the lobby and looked the synopsis up on my iPhone so I could find out what happened), but be forewarned…if you’re seeing this solely for Ryan Gosling looking hot you’ll likely be disappointed. And majorly grossed out.
Random post this morning, huh? I’m off to school- have a good one!
Bloggers: What do you do when you’ve lost your “blogging mojo?” How do you get it back? And what’s the last movie you saw in theaters? Do you like violent movies?
Not forcing myself during the blogging ‘slumps’ definitely helps get my mojo back! A little time off actually makes me want to blog and somehow gets the juices flowing! It did take a while to find a balance between blogging, work, and just life in general. I’ve found that not having the daily obligation of posting definitely takes the pressure off!
I’m kind of going through the same thing, with a new career and new house, blogging is taking a backseat. But like you said it ebs and flows, so I just kind of go with it until I have/make time.
Uh oh! I wanted to see that movie but now I’m not so sure…can’t handle the gore thing.
oooh the blogging mojo! i’ve lost it - and then found it again - many times. i try to remind myself that it seems like the quality of every singly blog out there isn’t always consistent. just like working or studying, sometimes we’re “in the zone” and sometimes we have to work harder to get there. for me, i try to step back a bit and cut myself some slack when i’m feeling out of it. a weekend of minimal blogging can really help rejuvenate me - or i always have my “blogging notebook” full of post ideas to fall back on as well.
I tend to take weekends off when the blogging mojo disappears. That always rejuvenates me. But, my schedule hasn’t changed as much as yours. Seems like you’re more stretched for time than lacking “mojo”?
I also saw Drive last night and also left! The movie was NOTHING like I thought it would be. I had no idea about the intense graphic violence and I also found it incredibly difficult to stomach. I also love Christina Hendricks and was disappointed about her (extremely short lived) role in the movie. I definitely prefer the Ryan in The Notebook.
Thank you for the warning about Drive! I was considering seeing it but I don’t do well with gore, so I really appreciate being steered away. Pun intended.
As for blogging mojo, I lost mine months ago and have no intention of getting it back, haha. I quit that bitch, but still love to be a reader, so thank you for persevering on your own blog.
I find that blogging is more a free-time thing. When I’m stressed and worn-down I just don’t feel like doing it. To get back in the mood I think it’s just about finding something inspiring to you. Don’t push it - when it comes it will come.
The last movie I saw was Contagion. It was fantastic! Ironically enough, someone sneezed when we were in the theatre and everyone froze I actually like gore - but as long as there is a good plot to keep me interested. It’s unfortunate that you had to leave the movie because it got so bad.
Blogging mojo lull going on right here as we speak! LOL
Although mine usually comes and goes quickly…like a day or even just a post or two. Also - I planned to blog on something very similar to this as I thought about being not motivated to do much right now. Too funny!
I lost my mojo myself late this summer…and I just now feel like I’m starting to get it back. No worries- take a break!!! You’ll probably come back more eager to blog than ever!
im in the exact same place as you! no worries!
Gabriela I think it’s great that you’re out there living your life, doing your thing, being young, fabulous, and adventuresome!
I knew when you were home for the summer and had tons of time on your hands that likely that would not be the case and continue b/c let’s face it…school, the time of life and stage you’re in…you’re going to be: busy! And doing things. So do them and don’t worry about blog reading, commenting, etc. I miss you but of course I am HAPPY For you!
Getting your blog mojo back…when the time is right it will just….come over you
And yes, sometimes it’s easier to blog than others. We’ve ALL been there!
I saw Drive this weekend and left utterly confused by the whole thing. I don’t get how it got such good reviews. I felt like I missed something when I read the reviews.
blogging mojo? what’s that??
As you know mine had been missing for a few weeks before I finally decided to take the plunge and just give up searching for it. It’s been officially a week since I stopped blogging and, though I’m obviously not trying to sway you to do the same (I’d miss UVS so much!!!) it really showed me that I didn’t love blogging as much as I thought I did. Not even close in fact. I realize now that the only things tying me to it were money and attention. I had no idea I was so vain and materialistic!
In many ways though I think blogging made me that way. It took my passion out of writing and photography and forced me to become “PB&Jenny: the spokeswoman for healthy foods, eating disorder recover, yoga, photography” etc.
Woo! not sure where that internal monologue came from and I’m sorry you had to be on the receiving end of it. POINT BEING .. never ever ever blog/comment/tweet/etc. if even the smallest ounce of you “doesn’t feel like it”. I think that for me, pushing myself to do these things when I really didn’t want to is what led me to spite blogging so much! Had I truly devoted myself to blogging when I wanted to and when I had time, I’m sure PB&J would be alive and thriving today!
either way, I love you
same for me lady! xoxo
I hear ya! I’ve definitely lost my mojo for weeks at a time and just need a break. Life definietely gets busy, so it’s difficult to really devote the amount of time I want to devote to blogging! I’ll be sticking around with you. I know you’re doing an awesome job in school!
When I get super busy I lose my blogging mojo too. So I use that as an opportunity just to lay low for a bit and enjoy life. My mojo always comes back eventually!
Oh darn, I was actually planning on seeing that movie just for Mr. Gosling. But I get weak at the sight of even a drop of blood, so I guess I won’t be seeing it after all!
You’ve still got the mojo, you just switched up your style! Hope you feel back in the groove soon!
Since I am fairly new to blogging, I haven’t lost my “blogging mojo” yet, but I have run into the scheduling issue because I have had a series of random jobs since I graduated college in May. I find that I have to tweak my schedule daily and give myself a goal of posting 2-3 times per day which gives me a little lee-way. You’ll get your mojo back! don’t worry
[...] One of the things I love about reading blogs is that no matter what is going on in my life or how I’m feeling a particular day, I inevitably will come across someone’s post that will make me want to shout “YES!!!” at my screen. That happened to me yesterday as I read Gabriela’s post about blogging mojo. [...]
oh mojos, they come ago. Last week was good, this week not so good. I’m gonna just go with it. You have a life and that come first. We’ll be here, always! hehe.
cheers!
