Today, my dad, brother and I all piled into a U-Haul to move everything out of my NYC apartment. (For a little bit of added excitement, he actually sideswiped the wall of the Holland Tunnel in our mammoth truck. Geez, dad!)
I’ve gotten lots of questions about my place over the last 1.5 years, but haven’t answered them for safety reasons. Now that my lease is just about over, though, I can finally share! My little studio was on Sullivan Street, right beneath Houston. It was the perfect spot- right between the charm of the West Village, the convenience of the NYU campus and the cool vibe of Soho.
I love New York. Manhattan was an absolutely incredible place to go to college, and I’m so thankful to my parents for the opportunity I had to live here. This was the first apartment I ever had on my own, and it was juuuust right.
So long, 146. I hope your next tenant treats you as well as I did. Especially for the planned $600 rent increase…only in New York.
ahh! cheers to a new beginning!!!
$600 rent increase?! That’s crazy!
I know, right? More than 30%…at least now I feel like I got a deal haha.
love the photos. where are you moving to… home?
For the time being
This makes me sad.
(:( Even though I knew you were leaving. Maybe you will be back one day! You and NYC seemed to get along very well!
enjoy your new start!!!!
I always thought it was so fab that you got to live in NYC
You had a GREAT location! I’m in Alphabet City and, though it’s fun to live here, the commute to NYU can get annoying. I’m hoping my next apartment will be somewhere between Houston and Grand St. I want to be as close to Doughnut Plant and Kossar’s Bialys as possible
.
I have to say though, there are SO many more restaurant gems in the East Village. There’s lots of trendy stuff in Soho, but all the cool and delicious stuff is over there!
I love the photos! What a lovely apartment!!
Best wishes on the next chapter of your life!
Aww, goodbye neighbor!
$600 rent increase??? I don’t even want to pay $700 for a one bedroom in Indiana. That’s crazy!
I loved your apartment in NYC - so cozy and the brick walls were my favorite part!
What a great location! I love soho, it’s such a cute little part of the city. Good luck with everything!
I know you’re in a transition time which can be unsettling at times, but just take it day to day! I know there’s something fabulous around the corner for your next chapter.
I wonder how many people just googled 145 Sullivan…haha
err, 146..
CrEepY!
It looks beautiful! I bet it was a wonderful home! …..When I lived in NY the rent kicked my bumm too and I was glad to leave that part behind!
Bon voyage.
These pictures are fabulous.
And so will the next chapter in your life be…congrats on movin’ on up!
So bittersweet. Cheers to a fabulous new beginning!
PS- Cali looks great on you.
Haha I think it’s just warm weather in general that looks good on me
awwww, so sad you moved out. Great location too!
Also, $600 increase! And I thought my $200 increase was robbery. GAAHH, New York real estate is such a pain in my a**.
Oh and it increased 200 while I was living there…so it will have gone up $800 in a year and a half. How insane is that?!
GOODNESS GRACIOUS, $600 is more than most of my friends pay for their rent altogether! you’re right… only in NYC.
I will forever be saying I want your photography skillz. you make the most mundane things look so goshdarn beautiful all the time!
Hence why I am leaving NYC. I look everywhere else and I’m like, “$1000 for a 1 bedroom?! WHAT A STEAL!”
And thank you, I owe it all to Instagram
What a good little tribute to your first apartment - I love that picture of the street signs.
$600 increase?! Holy crap, I don’t even pay $600 for our mortgage!!!
Here’s to new beginnings!!!!
I love the brick!
You lived right near of my best friends (Downing & Varick). I live on the UWS but wish it was the village! Especially because of all the amazing food….um Do Hwa? LOVE.
Ah that is so close! One of my best friends actually lived on that block for awhile!
What a cute and cozy apartment - a great memory to have!
