I haven’t posted much about health lately because…uhhh…there hasn’t been much to talk about.

After five months of eating wayyyy too much healthy food, December was pretty much a free for all. Burgers. Cake. Christmas cookies. Maybe three salads the entire month? I haven’t eaten that unhealthily in a long time, and it was all delicious and good for me, mentally at least. I will enjoy my fourth slice of red velvet cake on Christmas, moderation be damned.

However, I can definitely feel the difference between running on good stuff and running on junk. I like frosting, my body likes vegetables (so does my vanity). So, in January I want to get back on track with healthy eating- it’s not a resolution, because I know there will undoubtedly be more debaucherous weeks or months this year and I’m not going to set myself up for failure, but I do have a plan for the month.

Drink more water.

In the warmer months I’m really good about this, but in the winter water just tastes…cold. I just bought a 24 oz water bottle, and I’m aiming to fill it 3-4 times a day.

Drink less alcohol.

I’m not a huge drinker, but December was (rightfully so) a pretty fun month for adult beverages. Going out for drinks with friends is something I’ll always take part in, but I want to limit my drinks to just a couple per week when I’m out.*

Eat more vegetables.

Always a good thing.

Eat less dessert.

My sweet tooth will never go away, so my daily dessert is something I will never give up. I need it to keep from going crazy. However, I (and my jeans) do not need cookies after breakfast, lunch and dinner.*

Actually put effort into my workouts.

I’ve still been getting to the gym frequently, but once there, I’m a total slacker. Breezing along on the elliptical for half an hour isn’t a challenging workout, and if I’m going to put the time in, I want to do it right. Time to pick up the weights again, too, so I’m using the Jamie Eason LiveFit Trainer workouts as a guide….and my muscles are already crying.

*These things do not apply to my birthday on the 27 :)

Do you have any “back on track” goals after the holiday season? What’s your biggest health vice?
