To say that I am with food child right now would be an understatement. Food septuplets? Much more like it J
This evening, I had without a doubt one of the best meals of my life at Pure Food and Wine, accompanied by the lovely Gina, Diana and Katie.
As an appetizer, we split a plate of assorted Dr. Cow tree nut cheeses with rosemary crisps (better known as quackers).
After finally trying these much-hyped crackers, I fell in love. They were the tiniest bit sweet with a pleasant crunch that paired perfectly with the cheeses. My favorite was the one on the far right, which had a noticeable nutritional yeast flavor.
Deciding on what I want is always such a challenge at vegan restaurants! After perusing the menu, Gina and I both decided to order the famous S&M salad:
A massive pile of greens, avocado, hemp seeds, dulse, quackers and pumpkinseed lemon dressing. It was a salad party in my mouth.
Gina and I also split the sweet corn and cashew tamales with chili spiced portabella, which came with salsa verde, cashew coconut sour cream, avocado and raw cocoa mole.
Can you believe I’d actually never had a tamale before?! This version was a great introduction- creamy with just the right amount of spice. Even the portobellas were good!
Then it was time for the piece de resistance: dessert. I’d been dreaming about the raw chocolate mint sundae since I was last there in June, and though it was no longer on the menu, our awesome waiter told us he could have them made for our table. Um, yes please?!
Chocolate, fresh mint and mint chip ice cream with vanilla cream, chocolate sauce and mint chocolate cookies. One of the best foods that has ever passed my lips, I kid you not.
We ended up spending three hours at the restaurant, chatting about blogging, life and food. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again- I really feel like bloggers are kindred spirits. I just feel like I’ve found my people J
Time to put this food baby to bed! Have a great start to your week!

Haha love the food septuplets! Looks like it is well worth it, the food looks delicious!
I've never had a tamale before either and I love mexican food. That one in particular looks divine :)
I always so jealous of your eats, girl!
Have a great week!
That's awesome that they made that sundae for you!! And it all looks so good!
Those crackers sound delish! And oh my goodness... a fudge sundae is worth a food baby any day!!
I'm afraid to upload my pics - they will surely not look as beautiful as yours. Had so much fun hanging out with you! Night night. :)
That is the dessert that dreams are made of.
Hi Gabriela,
Love your blog but could you maybe change the color of text for your links? They become invisible towards the bottom of the pages because they are in the same color as your background. This is also happening in the list of your Archive posts on the right.
Thanks and keep up the fine blogging!
Looks delicious! Definitely worth the food baby :)
I have always wanted to know if you eat the covering of a tamale?
I love bloggers! The are our people!
"massive pile of greens, avocado, hemp seeds, dulse, quackers and pumpkinseed lemon dressing."--oh that sounds awesome
the choco sundae...of course a table of 4 hotties can get the waiter and chef to whip up anything :)
i would LOVE to meet Diana and Katie..I have been reading their blogs for a couple years and the combo of all of you (met you and Gina briefly at FBuzz)..well, it would be awesome!
And anon's comment about your links, they show up fine for me on my MAC/firefox but all puters are diff. sometimes ppl can't comment on my site if they are running windows on a PC. Glitches suck.
:)
i was in nyc this weekend and drove right by pure food and wine, but without vegan-ish foodies, it was a hard sell to actually do a meal there so i sighed and decided i'd go next time. so right now im SOO jealous that you went! maybe i drove right by you guys as you were enjoying this delectable meal!
Weird, Averie. I'm on a Mac/Firefox, too, but just checked it in Safari. There this blog has a white background and the links are fine; in Firefox the background is a coral color, as are, alas, the links. I guess I'll just view this blog in Safari from now on.
gorgeous food and gorgeous girls!
ahh that mint ice cream sunday looks insane- i might have to recreate that! mint is one of my favoritess!
I hope you sang your food baby a lullaby before you went to bed.
I too feel like I've "found my people". I've never had a huge group of friends - just best friends and a few others. I <3 bloggers.
Oh my goshhh, I think I would be tempted to pass up on dinner and just fill up on multiple sundaes! ;)
gah! so fun. i dont know what im more jealous of - the pure dinner (miss that place!!) or the lovely company. katie and diana are such sweethearts (im sure gina is too ive just never met her).
My food baby kept me awake last night! But... so worth it.
We should hit up CoD when you get back from Thanksgiving!
I... LOVE that place!! I now make it a challenge to get my non-vegan friends to eat there. I just tell them if they go there with me once and genuinely don't completely enjoy every bit, then fine. But at least they have to try it once! Most rich food, meat-eating friends are converted. And I get yet another healthy raw vegan meal, hooray!!
:) Someone was JUST mentioning this place to me! I have to give it a try if I'm ever back in NYC. It's been a few years though.
I went to pure food for my 21st birthday and it was AMAZING. That sundae was EPIC!
Great pictures! I just saw a few over at fitnessista's - looks like such a fun get together!
that sundae looks delish!! :) yummo!! may i ask what a 'tamale' is, i've never had one!!
