Food Baby Continued

Indian food + Lululemon + vegan ice cream = Amazing day!!

It started off this morning with last night’s leftovers from Pure Food and Wine. I wanted to eat them before the salad wilted!

I added a handful of walnuts and a banana to round out the meal. It was a huge departure from my usual cereal bowl, but I didn’t hate it J

Though I had plans for a quick run this morning, my glutes were screaming in response to yesterday’s Physique 57 class. I took a rain check, and instead spent the morning cleaning and doing homework until Jaclyn arrived. We headed to the “Curry Hill” area of the city top meet Gina for an Indian feast.

Last night at dinner, Diana recommended we try Saravanaa Bhavan, a vegetarian southern Indian place on 26th and Lexington that specializes in dosas.

Instead of ordering our own entrees, we selected three and shared them all family-style. It ended up being a great choice, since they were all amazing.

We got a vegetable dosa with dipping sauces:

Vegetable jalfrezi (my favorite of the three):

Chana masala:

And whole-wheat roti:

Obviously, we feasted our hearts out. Everything was super spicy, which is the only way to eat Indian in my book! The entire meal was delicious…so much so that we were jumping with food-induced joy ;)

We meandered down to Union Square, stopping for requisite mirror pics:

And to gawk at the gorgeous produce at the Union Square farmer’s market:

I tried a Suncrisp apple, and dare I say it was better than a Honeycrisp?

Our next destination was Lululemon, where we all ended up buying hoodies. I put mine on right away- I’ve been coveting one for awhile now!

Gina and I are hoodie twins J

After all of our walking and shopping, we decided to grab a snack at the famous One Lucky Duck.

Though I was still pretty full from lunch, I decided to grab a pressed “fruit punch” juice.

It contained apple, pear, grape, orange and beet…obviously from the color, the beet was the most dominant flavor.

Gina bought half a pint of raw vegan almond butter cup ice cream, while Jaclyn picked out some cinnamon crispies.

We sat on a little bench and enjoyed our snacks, passing around each so that we could all try them. The almond butter cup ice cream was definitely the best- worth its own trip to the café!

All and all, a totally amazing day. A good reminder that it’s really never the things you do, it’s the people you do them with. And a food baby never hurts, either J

What an awesome day! Sounds perfect. I've yet to step in a Lululemon store b/c I know I'll get in trouble. However, maybe if I went in with some strict guidelines, I'd leave with only 1 or 2 things. :)

Dang, Diana knows the best places. I grew up eating a lot of Indian food, so I'm quite picky about it....but the stuff looks really good! What a fun trip...totally worth all the food babies! :D

That DOES look like a freaking fantabulous day. My husband and I are just about to start looking at moving to a new apartment and you are making me think about Union Square. Are food reasons alone enough to base your decision about where to live?? I mean huge Farmers Market and OneLuckyDuck? Oy...
