Spring Street Natural Meetup

I’ve been getting spoiled left and right with delicious meals lately!!

This afternoon, I met up with Yelena, Missy and Mari for lunch at Spring Street Natural. It’s one of my favorite NYC restaurants, so I can’t think of a more fitting place for a blogger meet up!

The bread at this place is some of the best I’ve ever had, hands down.

I had a slice of my favorite dense, chewy and flavorful “orange” bread- I can never determine what flavor it is (carrot? pumpkin? tomato?), but it’s phenomenal.

As my entrée, I ordered the Asian ginger-lime stir fry.

Seitan, baby shiitakes, Chinese dried black beans, snow peas, baby bok choy, onions and basmati rice in a ginger-lime teriyaki sauce.

I haven’t had seitan in awhile, and I forgot how delicious it is. The sauce really made this dish- I even ate  most of the rice, which is generally too boring for me to enjoy!

Yelena was super sweet and brought each of us a bag of Ghirardelli chocolate, native to her home city of San Francisco.

How thoughtful is that? Perfect timing, since my chocolate stash is a bit low at the moment. Thanks, Yelena!

I’m so glad I got the chance to meet yet more blog friends in person. It’s amazing that I now have foodie friends in all corners of the country (and England)!

And as a sweet ending when I got home, I enjoyed a square of vegan fudge.

Backtracking this morning, I woke up after a great night’s sleep and had a bowl of Shredded Wheat with a gigantic chopped pear.

Since lunch was a bit later than I’m used to, I also snacked on a whole-wheat tortilla with melted Earth Balance later in the morning.

Time for the usual Sunday afternoon activities- homework, grocery shopping and cleaning. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Bok choy, one of the best plant based sources of calcium. That and sesame seeds,(or tahini) or blackstrap molasses. That's your food trivia today :)

And the fudge. I saw evan re-link that recipe yetserday and if it wasnt halloween week and knowing i will be innundated with candy this week, I would have made it yesterday. I saw you tweet about it...which I NEVER pay attn to twitter and randomly saw that :)

What a great meetup! Brunch is my favorite meal. And it seems like there is no shortage of new restaurants to try in NYC. That makes living there as a foodie so fun; you're a lucky gal!

Lime-teriyaki glaze sounds delicious, I bet anything would taste yummy with it! I am usually not a big rice fan either, too plain!
your simple but decandent homemade fudge is bookmarked on my things to bake list! :)

What a great day! I see you're sporting a cute little sundress - I suppose the weather in NYC is just as beautifula s it is in Chicago!

I want to meet Mari and meet Missy again! And you, of course! :)

Glad you had, fun, as usual. I have been trying lots of West Village restaurants lately because of USB. We went to one this afternoon that was called Kelley's and Ping's noodle shop or something like that? It was delicious! We went to Five Guys the other week, which was fabulous, although I don't think they have any veggie burgers. The fries are really good!

Here's to more delicious eating in NY! If only the upper part of Manhattan could catch up with the lower part, in terms of having good food...*sigh*...
