You may have noticed that I’m a little obsessed with my dog.
Like many dog owners, I believe that our yellow lab, Maggie, is perfect. Sure, she’s a bit dangerous when she catapults herself two feet into the air out of sheer excitement, and yes, her compulsive need to snuggle regardless of whatever else you’re doing can get a bit exhausting, but I still love her way more than most humans. Sorry I’m not sorry.
You know how I show my love? With baked goods. So it seemed only natural that I bake for Maggie. This morning I looked up a ton of dog treat recipes but was missing an ingredient or two in most of them, so I combined a few and came up with these.
Maggie’s Dog Treat Cookies
Ingredients:
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup almond butter
- 1 large banana, mashed
- 1 cup spelt flour
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
Preheat oven to 300*F. Use a fork to whisk together the first three ingredients until thoroughly mixed, then add flour and oats and stir until well combined. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper, and use a 1/4 measuring cup to drop cookies evenly apart. Bake for about 25-30 minutes, or until center is firm and edges are golden brown. Allow to cool completely before giving to your dog! Makes about 8 treats.
They tasted pretty good to me (yes, I tried one), but the real test was Miss Maggie.
Success!!
Though lots of dogs are Hoovers, gobbling up whatever is on the kitchen floor, Maggie is actually quite picky and dainty. She only likes certain foods, like peanut butter, chocolate chip cookies and cherry tomatoes (this is so my dog). And, apparently, these dog treats.
I’m glad. I couldn’t bear to disappoint the love of my life.
LOL LOVE the last pic of your dog. sooooooo cute!! I used to give my dogs leftover treats if they didn’t come out to my likings (not sweet enough, little dry, etc.) she certainly never seemed to mind!
I LOVE Maggie! she is such a sweetheart! my pup would love these!
I heart Maggie - she’s so sweet!! I love making treats for my pups. My fave thing to make are homemade frozen doggy treats. I blend one large container of plain yogurt with 1/2 cup peanut butter (or canned pumpkin), 1 banana, and ground flax seeds. I then pour the mixture into small plastic cups and freeze. They LOVE them! They hold it between their front paws and just lick lick lick until it is gone.
I do this for my dog, and put in muffin cups once frozon wrap them or put in a ziplock, my doggie loves them. There way better then the store ones that are loaded with crap!
hahaha LOVE that last picture - and I love the new layout! Although I did get a sneak peak!
“She only likes certain foods, like peanut butter, chocolate chip cookies and cherry tomatoes” = she sand I could swap cupboards b/c that’s me too
And as an aside your pics look better, your font looks better, your food looks better..EVERYTHING looks better since your migration. I think things just look better on WP. So happy for you!
Awesome post! Keep on loving Maggie

I’m in love with the new look! And your sweet, sweet Maggie! And those cookies sound pretty good for dogs and humans… lol!
Oh Em Gee… she is so sweet! We used to make dog treats for our dog Chico. My Dad once mistook them for cookies and he asked us “why these cookies taste so funny!”

Aww that’s such a cute idea to bake treats for your dog! Although, I’m not gonna lie, I think I would gobble those up faster than a dog.
