Midnight in Paris Giveaway

by Gabriela on Saturday, December 24, 2011

Christmas Eve already? Where did this year go?

I finally finished my gift shopping last night, and today is devoted to wrapping, making cookies, and then going to a seven fishes dinner and church this evening. However, there’s still one gift left to think about- and that’s for you guys!

I wasn’t sure what I wanted to share with you all, so I decided to get something that I knew I’d want: Midnight in Paris, a beautiful Woody Allen movie set in 1920s Paris that came out earlier this year. Conveniently, I actually got this for my mom so I can watch it whenever I’d like, too…and don’t worry, the chance that she’ll actually read this before tomorrow is like .1%.

Midnight in Paris is everything a movie about Paris should be- funny, unique, not too serious and plenty of gorgeous costumes. It stars Luke Wilson (who won me over in Marley and Me) and Marion Cotillard (from La Vie en Rose and Inception), and tells the story of a 21st century man who keeps inadvertently time-traveling into the 1920s Paris of Hemingway, Picasso and Fitzgerald while on a trip to the city with his bitchy fiance. I loved it, and I hope you will too!

Two readers will each receive a copy of the DVD (I might throw something chocolatey in there as well…). There are three ways to enter:

1. Leave a comment on this post telling me the favorite gift you’re giving this year.

2. Follow me on Twitter.

3. Like the Une Vie Saine Facebook page.

If you’ve already followed/liked, just leave a comment telling me that! Please leave a separate comment for each entry. I’ll pick a winner on the morning of Wednesday, December 28…bonne chance and Merry Christmas!

Greetings from Nerd City*

by Gabriela on Wednesday, December 21, 2011

Palo Alto is the most adorable town. It’s kind of weirdly perfect and Stepford-like, but in a charming way. And it’s sunny all the time. I like. Apparently the Apple store here was actually the first one- I went in there tonight and left really really wanting an iPad. My birthday is only a month away, ya know.

Sunday morning I went to the Palo Alto Farmer’s Market for breakfast/lunch (did I mention I’ve been sleeping in till like 10 here? Unheard of for me): a green juice from Raw Daddy’s, and a blueberry flax muffin from Rebecca’s Mighty Muffins. First I had to get over the fact that the farmer’s market is open the weekend before Christmas. Did I mention I love the weather here?

Pizza My Heart has been my meal/late-night snack of choice lately, and I forgot how good pizza by the slice is. Especially when accompanied by a raspberry Coke Zero from one of those fancy-schmancy new flavored soda machines.

I made two peanut butter pies over the weekend to bring to a little holiday gathering, where they were promptly demolished. I like that I’ve been to culinary school, and yet the biggest hits are still the idiot-proof desserts I’ve been making since high school. No one can say no to saturated fat and confectioner’s sugar.

Ever been to a Wizard Staff party? It’s where you tape together all your adult beverage receptacles in order to compete for who has the longest “wizard staff.” (I thought of teenage boys too.) Really fun!

On the burn front, my wrist is finally starting to heal. Things are still pretty red and raw, but the pain is pretty much gone. Not so good for the internship- I’ll explain that whole situation in another post- but I’m glad it wasn’t as bad as it could have been and things got better relatively quickly. I’m heading home on Thursday, and as much as I like it here, I’m excited to see this precious face.

*I use nerd as a term of endearment, as I am the biggest nerd I know. So nerdy that I know Dr. Suess invented the word.

What is/was your drinking game of choice in college? I wish I’d known about the wizard staff thing for the past few years, as it requires far less hand-eye coordination and skill than flip cup or pong…
