This afternoon, I had a hair appointment with the same stylist I've been going to for five years. I always get the same thing: highlights with a few lowlights thrown in, and a trim. Normally she does it perfectly, but today for some reason I ended up with this:
Excuse the Zoolander expression. I was going for a sadface. |
I feel like a tiger. There are certain people who can rock the two-tone look. I am not one of them. I didn't say anything at first because the lighting in the salon made it difficult to see how bold the lowlights are, but I had a mild freak out when I got home and looked more closely in the mirror. Needless to say, I'll be going back for a correction! Yes, it's only hair, and yes, it can be easily fixed, but I think that any woman who's had a salon mishap can relate to how annoying this is.
Moving on to rant #2.
As I've mentioned before, my dad and I are leaving next Monday for a week-long trip to London. I applied in person for an expedited passport renewal on April 23, when I was told it would take 2-3 weeks for my new passport to arrive. Well, it's been 23 days, and still no passport. I called the US Passport Office to see what the situation was, and was told that in spite of paying the $60 expedited passport fee, there's no guarantee that it will arrive by next Monday. So, I need to go to the passport office in Philadelphia and plead for them to issue me a new one in person. Which, if they agree to do, will cost $195. Sweet.
Again, it's not the end of the world. There are people with way more magnanimous concerns, I get that! This too shall pass. But it's a stressful situation to have when we have plane tickets and a hotel paid for.
In the middle of all this, I wolfed down dinner. Wawa to the rescue!
I went to the Philly-area convenience store and bought a veggie hoagie with mustard, oil and vinegar on a whole-wheat roll. Alongside my sandwich, I also had an apple.
Since I ate while on hold with the passport agency, copious amounts of dessert were obviously necessary. I had a peanut butter chocolate chip cookie, as well as twice the amount of Ghirardelli dark chocolate squares pictured. In stressful situations, dark chocolate always helps me relax a bit!
Thankfully, tonight I'm going to see Fast Five with Mike. (Yes, I love The Fast and the Furious series, and I'm not ashamed to admit it.) I'm hoping that it will take my mind off of things- after all, at least I'm not fleeing the country to escape the cops. Or bald like Vin Diesel. Thanks for putting up with my drama-queen-ness....I promise to be less whiny tomorrow :) Have a great night, everyone!
Tell me: the worst hair salon or travel experience you've ever had. Maybe all I need is some perspective ;)
