Is it just me, or is Gossip Girl one of the only TV shows in the history of television that can get progressively more ridiculous without becoming horrible?
After watching last night’s episode online this afternoon, I immediately checked out New York Magazine’s Reality Index, which recaps each episode according to “real” and “fake” moments. Some of my favorites this week:
Serena: “It was just so easy in Paris.”
Blair: “You were just so easy in Paris.” Plus 2 that their friendship has now progressed to the “when in doubt make a joke about Serena being a whore” phase.
Blair can barely describe the moment when a homeless person licked Eva’s arm. Plus 4, because we know New Yorkers who have left the city after seeing less.
We literally had to rewind this four times to make out Chuck’s ominous last phrase: “This means war, Blair. Me versus you. No limits.” It was worth it. Plus 5.
Blair does not press the ambulance issue nearly enough. Seriously. If you can clean someone’s wounds with vodka, you can’t figure out how to call a hospital from your home phone? Minus 4.
Sorry, but nobody’s passport photo is a candid photo of them in formalwear. There’s literally a law against it. Minus 5.
Fellow die-hard GG fans can check out the rest of the Reality Index here. It’s hysterical. And for the non-die hard fans…I guess I’ll move onto the eats now J
This afternoon, I whipped up a batch of some brownies: the Happy Herbivore’s infamous low-fat black bean “brownies” from the controversial Marie Claire article.
Verdict? They were super tasty and healthy to boot, though I must admit that they’re not the real deal. Not that I expected them to be...black beans just can’t replace sugar and butter. I still had two J
For dinner, I made a roasted veggie salad beast.
Sweet potato, broccoli, onions and carrots roasted in EVOO, salt and pepper, plus spinach and tomato.
I had an unpictured pita dipped in salsa on the side as well.
A bitten apple to cleanse the palate before my Gossip Girl treat…
Something about chocolate chips just feels so much more indulgent than a slab of dark chocolate. Maybe it’s the fact that as a kid, eating from the bag of chocolate chips was always a no-no.
Yay for being a (kind of) grown-up.
Off to do some homework- I need to get to bed early tonight!
Do you watch Gossip Girl? If not, what are some of your favorite TV shows?
Are there any foods that were “off-limits” during your childhood that you now love because of it?

I can't remember foods being off limits... we were just taught moderation! I have smart parents
28 minutes until Glee starts :-) I guess that is my show of choice this season. My favorites of all time would be Alias (vintage Jennifer Garner, anyone?), Veronica Mars, and Lost! I can't deal with all of the Reality TV on lately.
I love Gossip Girl! Where do you watch it online? It's not on the CW website yet, it usually takes several days.
bahah i totally agree w. you on gossip girl! WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON!! who the HECK IS THAT GIRL!!?!?! gahhh! SO MANY QUESTIONS. and those brownies look BALLER!
love you sweet girl!
This is random but when I was a kind my mom was super strict with the food I ate - being the first born and all. One day she say me sitting under the kitchen table (I was probably 15...just kidding I was 3) and I was drinking maple syrup straight from the bottle! From then on she vowed to give me a little more sugar :)
i literally schedule a block of time every week into my (very busy) tuesday's to watch gossip girl online. the plot line keeps getting more and more ridiculous, but for some reason i keep getting more and more into it.
not to mention, the clothes are amazing. i recently found this site: http://www.gossipgirlfashion.net/ it tells you what designers the girls are wearing - it's annoying that they're putting vanessa in designer clothes though!
What is that delish sauce on the veggies? Plus tell me it's nutritional yeast based ;)
sugary cereal !bring on the cocoas puffs and cinnamon toast crunch:-)o and having breakfast for dinner or lunch! xoxoxxoxo
That reality index is awesome! I always forget how much I like New York Magazine...
way to rock the brownies, girl!
i keep debating watching gossip girl... actually, im surprised i havent caught on yet considering how big of a hit it is and how i hate to feel left out hah
Ooh, the scandalous black bean brownies! daring ;) haha - I am still quite curious about baking with beans - I still have to give it a try! I'm thinking I might like them since I'm not actually a big chocolate browni fan...
hahahaha i love the last reality bites point about the passport! that's hilarious.
ugh i've been wanting a sweet potato SO bad lately! i went to grab one from the pantry before and they all went bad :( but roasted veg + mustard + sweet tater = heaven
Beautiful salad. :)
Glad you share my love of chocolate chips! I ate about 4 handfulls throughout the span of the day!! Have a wonderful night :)
I've always wondered about those black bean brownies!! I love a real fudgy brownie too much though. And I am so obsessed with your veggie salads! This one with taters looks particularly delish. I just posted about the avocado salad! :)
OMG, I LOVE the reality index for Gossip GIrl!!! I really liked Monday's episode. LOVE that the war between Chuck and Blair is on again. Also loved the clearly staged/horrible picture on Chuck's passport. My roommate and I laughed so hard at that.
Haha, I just watched GG about 10 minutes ago, and literally laughed out loud when they showed Chuck's formal-wear passport photo. I need to go check out that GG recap site.
Also, I adore roasted veggie beast salads, and I LOVE eating chocolate chips from the bag too. :-)
I LOVE GOSSIP GIRL! I was so mixed yesterday- first I was happy then i was mad then i was upset then i was mad hahahah i do NOT want chuck and blair fighting! :( :( haha its such a good show.
and haha SAME with the chocolate chips! everytime we made cookies when I was little, i dont think I was "allowed" to eat the chips. maybe bc they were sepcifically for the cookies, or idn hahha.
i have tried black bean brownies before, i thoght they were okay. too overpowering bean taste for me, perhaps your recipe is better :)
Thanks, friend! I LOVE Gossip Girl and had never heard of this index - hilarious!! Going to click on your link to read more - great tip!
All I remember being off limits was coke during the week - it was a friday night treat thing! I need to bring that back into my life (with diet pepsi though!). :)
I started reading the books in high school and have watched every single episode of GG all through college. I'm addicted and not at all ashamed. I love The Reality Index, and here's another one I appreciated:
• No one in the history of time has ever sneaked up on a person at a laptop and not looked at what was on their screen. Especially not someone who is in the midst of a complicated scheme to bring down a whole group of friends, using the Internet. Minus 5 for Juliet’s lack of sleuthiness.
So true. I love how snarky that blog is, just like the show!
And there is no shame about eating chocolate chips straight up out of the bag. At home, my mom has at least 4 bags stock piled at all times of semi-sweet Ghiradelli chips. She probably goes through two a week. She set a good example for me!
I'm having the hugest craving for roasted sweet potatoes.. you are not helping love ;)
Ohhhh Gossip Girl. Can you say addiction?! Because that's what I have to it. I love love love Chuck and Blair..
I love beastly sized roasted veggie salads as well...yours looks wonderful! Gossip Girl is awesome ;)!
i have never watched an episode of gossip girl, glee, or any other 99.9% of shows that are on tv.
bravo shows, e shows, that's it. and even then, we're talking maybe 1 hour per week. tops. No time!
your salad beast looks amazing, the colors just POP!
the honest review of the brownies, THANK YOU!!! everyone tries to say they are the same and as a sweet tooth girl, from one to another, i appreciate you telling it straight up like it is..thank you!!!
btw most choc chips ARE inherently vegan if they are semi sweet. So dont feel you need to pay for the label, i.e. TJ's are vegan, just not labeled as such. Just trying to save you some $$
I think I love Gossip Girl BECAUSE it's so ridiculous. ;) I haven't had a chance to watch this season yet though! It sounds even more redonk than usual.
Haha I totally know what you mean about the chocolate chips! We weren't allowed to eat them from the bag either. Also my parents almost never bought us sugary cereals, so we always loved going to our grandma's house because she would buy them for us.
I LOVE the reality index for GG episodes! I've been reading them since the second season. Watching a Gossip Girl without reading their thoughts just isn't complete.
Eh, if I want a brownie I'll have a brownie and have my protein elsewhere. That being said, some imitation healthy desserts, like avocado chocolate pudding, are SO good. Did you run 10 miles after eating the brownie (haha)?
Gossip Girl is INSANE. hahahaha. Unlike Grey's, which I'm not liking so much as it turned into such a twisted little melodrama.
I'm loving that you made some of those bean brownies; I think that all of us should in honor of the truth behind food blogging ^~ I'm not a brownie fan myself unless they are served under ice cream. They're a little too rich for me otherwise.
As a kidlette I wasn't allowed to have sugary cereals. Today I'll have golden grahams from time to time to make up for it (~swoon swoon~).
Chocolate chips are more satisfying for me too. Maybe it feels like we're eating more?
It's not just you - I love the Gossip Girl books, but the show is HORRIBLE. Eek :(
I. am. OBSESSED with GG. In fact, I secretly love the fact that I share the same initials so I can say "xoxo GG." LOL.
I still haven't seen this week's episode, though. Watching tonight!!
p.s. After pondering it for about a year (haha), I've decided to not even attempt the black bean brownies. I don't like brownies much to begin with, so I can't see myself liking them much at all...!
I have a serious chocolate chip habit! I love to keep them in the freezer and then fill little bowls of them for snacks...one bowl is never enough!
I love GG! I secretly want to be S minius the ho part..
