Foodie Win, Part Deux

Loves! Happy weekend! I must say, my day of foodie win on Thursday is rapidly turning into a whole weekend of foodie win. Don’t believe me? Let’s begin.

During our drive to NYC yesterday, I snacked on blueberries...that is, until my mom spilled iced coffee into the container, rendering them inedible.

Fortunately, we’d also brought some dark chocolate espresso trail mix. I love berries, but everything is better coated in dark chocolate.

Once we got into the city, lunch was the only thing on my mind. We decided on Bamboleo, a hole-in-the-wall Mexican place on Bleecker Street.

My favorite thing about Mexican restaurants is the chips and salsa!

I ordered the vegetable taco salad, sans cheese and sour cream.

Loved all the beans and steamed veggies!

Next up was a stop at one of my favorite places in the whole world:

You can literally smell the buttercream from a block away.

Though I’m usually a chocolate girl, at Magnolia it’s all about the vanilla. I chose a pink one:

Absolute heaven. If diabetes didn’t exist, I’d eat one of these after every meal.

We spent the afternoon browsing stores and walking up Fifth Avenue, from Washington Square Park to Central Park. Nearly three miles! It was a great way to work up an appetite for this:

For any new readers, Candle 79 is my favorite restaurant. They serve fantastic vegan food in classic atmosphere.

First, our waitress brought us complimentary tomato bruschetta amuse-bouches.

As an appetizer, the table shared an order of smoked hummus: grilled paratha bread, olives, roasted garlic bulb and red pepper oil.

To live for. Once the pita was gone, I scraped ate the leftover hummus with my spoon!

For my entrée, I chose the Caribbean jerk grilled seitan with plaintains, collard greens, black bean sauce, mango-papaya salsa and habanero-cilantro coulis:

This was so much food! I loved every bite. The plantains and collard greens were my favorite part.

Dessert: the live peach parfait, with nut granola, apricot cashew cream, peach compote and ginger ice cream.

Can you believe this was raw? The granola and ice cream were some of the best I’ve ever had!

I left with a vegan food baby- the best kind of baby J

Gotta run loves- enjoy your Saturday!

What’s your favorite kind of cupcake?

If you'd never get a stomachache, what desserts would you eat every day?

I love little hole-in-the-wall restaurants. I'll take a random little beer-and-taco joint over a sprawling restaurant any day!

I love vegan chocolate pecan cupcakes. I think that would be my every-day dessert!

I forgot how much good food there is in the city! I miss Crumbs bakery, I must say...their carrot cake and Reeses cupcakes are amazing! But if I had to choose, I'd eat soft-serve ice cream with crumbled Reeses cups!

to be honest, i don't think i've ever had a "real" cupcake! the only kinds i've ever had are those ones that you buy in bulk for kids' birthday parties at sam's club and costco with the plastic rings smooshed into the icing. not nearly as good as gourmet cupcakes, i daresay.

oh god...cheesecake, brownies, nutella, white chocolate, milkshakes, ice cream cake...what to choose?! i haven't got a sweet tooth, i've got a sweet FANG, i swear. i love all desserts too much to choose a favorite!

I'm not the biggest fan of cupcakes...I've had those fancy ones, but they just didn't appeal to me. Something about the lack of chewy texture, and the sweetness of the icing....

Have you tried chocolate-covered blueberries? I have a feeling you'll love those!

If I could, I would eat red velvet cupcakes all. the. time. Now, glutenfree and vegan red velvet cupcakes are really hard to come by... but I would so do it.

You're back in NYC?! Maybe we could do another dinner at Blossom one of these days! I haven't been there in a while since the rude hostess incident, but I'd be willing to give it another go! lol Just let me know!

Your dinner at Candle 79 looked amazing... especially the peach parfait!

It's a toss up between frozen yogurt and apple crisp -- LOVE.
Also, your breakfasts have inspired me-- cereal + blueberries (frozen sometimes!) + almond milk = such a deliciously simple combo it's amazing. Thanks! :)

you mean you didn't want coffee berries? crazy talk! j/k :)

darn diabetes!! i'd eat cookies everyday! or white cake...or hummingbird cake..ahh i have sweet tooth. i think it's absolutely crazy when people say they don't have a sweet tooth. i just don't get it!

I'm not that into cupcakes, honestly.

But your entree sounds perfect - seitan, plantains, black beans, mango salsa? That's totally what I would have chosen. I have a soft spot for plantains and I'll order pretty much anything if it comes with them.

If I could get away with it, I would eat anything chocolate peanut butter every day. Like a chocolate peanut butter Larabar-type raw dessert. That's what I'd eat every day if I could.

Those cupcakes look SO GOOD. I'm going to NYC next weekend and you've convinced me to try one!

I would eat a canoli every day if I could get away with it!

I got that dessert when I went to Candle for my birthday ... soooooooooooo effing good!!
BTW - I'm going out of town for the next 10 days, you'll probably have moved back by the time I get back, so we get to paaartay!

Ahh I need to go to Candle 79 one of these days already!! Looks delicious.

I agree, at Magnolia you must get the vanilla. Otherwise, my favorite cupcake flavor is the "Sweet and Salty" (chocolate and salted caramel) at Baked, in Brooklyn.

And if I didn't get serious stomach pains from all the dairy, I would eat ice cream and milkshakes like it was my job :)

I would eat wedding cake every day. I think that I would need to go to a wedding though with it, which is fine by me.
