It’s already been a busy weekend, and it’s only Saturday morning!!
Yesterday afternoon, I met up with Mike and another friend to do some shopping near Union Square. I ended up buying a bright orange sweater dress that I’m determined to find the moxie to wear, because even though it’s a statement piece, I’m kind of obsessed with it. I also bought my Halloween costume, which I’m keeping a surprise until October 31…I got the idea last November and have been excited about it ever since!
For dinner, we went to a hole-in-the-wall Vietnamese place. Authentic ethnic restaurants are the best places to get cheap, good food.
I started off with a big bowl of vegetable hot and sour soup (my favorite). This had big chunks of pineapple amidst the veggies, which was such a good touch!
Mike and I also shared a dumpling-like dish stuffed with rice and shrimp. They had a really interesting texture- the rice was super duper sticky inside, and almost stuck to the roof of your mouth.
For my entrée, I ordered the “design your own” vegetarian entrée, with sautéed carrots, zucchini and baby bok choy alongside brown rice and a spicy vegetable sauce.
I inhaled it, of course. It’s always funny when people comment about how many veggies I can put away!
After dinner, we hung out at my apartment (and I ate some dark chocolate, of course) for a bit before heading out to a bar. It was a low-key but very fun night- spontaneous and full of good friends.
This morning, I woke up pretty late and had a bowl of Kashi GoLean with a banana and chocolate almond milk.
If you’ve never used chocolate milk in your cereal before, do it. It takes the bowl to a whole new level.
Afterwards, I headed to the gym for a quick elliptical + strength session. I did 20 minutes of HIIT, followed by half an hour of weights. It dawned on me that I’ve kind of unintentionally taken the week off from running- following Wednesday’s butt issues, I wanted to take it easy, and the 9-miler I had planned for this morning has been postponed until Monday. Though it is making me a bit anxious that the race is quickly approaching and I need to keep training, I know that pushing it is never good. It’s better to take time off and come back strong, than to slug through a run that you’re not really in the mood for.
Headed uptown soon to pick up my sister in law and her friend- so excited they’re here!
What are you being for Halloween? Of course, if you're keeping it a surprise too, I totally understand :)

I have no idea what I'm going to be yet. I have a party I might be going to so I have to come up with something buuuut I have no clue.
Sounds like you had a fun night girl!
chocolate milk n cereal - yes!!!
I am way too excited about my costume to keep it under wraps. I am being Rachel Berry from Glee. Luckily (or perhaps sadly) I have all the elements of the costume already part of my wardrobe. So, all i need are some gold stars to carry around and award to people! If you are not a Glee fan...sorry for my diatribe there, lol.
And I LOVE authentic ethnic places. They really are the best places to get cheap but good food.
I was going to buy an American Apparel body suit, tights and leg warmers and be a ballet dancer, but it turns out that I have a midterm on Halloween AND the day after. I'm so bummed! :(
I agree it's better not to push yourself! I'm sure these days off will help you rock Monday's run!
My friends and I are being Party Animals. Basically we're going to dress up as animals and have a blast. I'm still debating what I should actually be, though. There are too many great animal costumes!
why have i never done chocolate milk in my cereal!?! brills
I'm super psyched about my costume...I'm going to be Lady Gaga. I've wanted to be her since last year, but I guess everyone else had the same idea too. I'm going to make the costume instead of buying it, and I'm excited! Now you're keeping me in suspense about your costume!
yum! I never tried chocolate almond milk with cereal! I usually stick to the original or plain, ill have to try that! and with banana, it has to be good! :)
Chocolate milk on cereal, awesome idea!!
I'm not dressing up as anything on Halloween! Well, I'll be a marathon runner :p does that count!?
Good luck with training, it sounds like you know how to listen to your body.
I can pack away quite a few veggies, too. It's a special talent.
The sweet pineapples in spicy soup would be a good touch!
Can't wait to see your Halloween costume.. I need to figure mine out I guess!

YEs, totally. And really, who would want to go to an americanized version of ethnic food, it's just not the same!
choc milk on cereal. hello, my childhood.
time out at a bar with mike? sounds fun. Im sure you were sipping sprite all nite :)
xoxo
Gahhh that food looks amazing! I love eating out especially at authentic ethnic places - I've never had Vietnamese food, though, but now I totally need to.
Can't wait to hear more about Halloween! YES! One of the most amazing holidays ever.
I wanna see a picture of you in the sweater dress! I bet it's really pretty/exotic!
I wanna be a sexy ballerina. Not sure if I can pull it off though. USB has NEVER participated in Halloween (apparently they don't have it in Kenya), so we will have to have some fun and get in some trouble. :)
I get so into my costume selection when I actually dress up. I have "interesting" costumes like last year I was a caesar salad. I wore a roman-esue dress with a salad bag glued to my back with croutons glues to my earring. I dont think I'll dress up this year.
A sweater dress? I know you won't reveal it, but I have a feeling you daphne from Scooby Doo.
Gabriella,
I had a blast this weekend with you and Julie in New York City! Bar hoping was such a good idea… Your apartment is gorgeous, and i cannot wait to visit again! I enjoyed discovering new and delicious foods at the restaurants we ate this past weekend. I love love Quantum Leap… (Veggie burger and garlic fries were out of this world…) I have to admit it, you have inspired Julie and I to change our eating habits to a vegetarian/vegan cuisine.
PS - Luke and I would love to stay at your apt the 1st weekend in November. Can’t wait!
Thanks again Gabs for such a great weekend.
You sure are the bestest sister-in-law!!
Love you !
- Cammy
