Wow, Sunday already? It’s been a whirlwind of a weekend, but I couldn’t have asked for a better few days. Where did I leave off?
Yesterday afternoon, Gracie and I met her friend Amanda in midtown. The first stop on our list was Whole Foods, for some salad bar lovin’.
I loaded up on greens, kale salad, haricots verts, baked tofu, braised tempeh, zucchini, seaweed salad, artichoke hearts, three-bean salad, heirloom tomatoes, lentil salad and tabbouleh. Those boxes are deceptively large!
On the side, I had a container of papaya, mango, pineapple and kiwi and a can of lemon-lime Zevia.
After a long walk downtown and some shopping at Forever 21, a cupcake stop was necessary. I just had to introduce Gracie to the magic of Crumbs!
I went with the mint-chocolate Grasshopper flavor.
See all that frosting and chocolate chips? Total win.
In true Gabriela form, I demolished the frosting and fudge filling, but barely touched the cake part. Don’t judge me J
Gracie left later in the afternoon, and I headed up to the Bronx to hang out with Mike and his friends for the evening. I didn’t take a single picture until this afternoon, and you know what? It. Felt. Good. Sometimes my camera feels like another cell phone, I’m so attached to it!
I whipped out the camera again this afternoon, just in time for a meetup Meghann organized at Stogo.
Stogo is a vegan ice cream shop in the East Village. They carry tons of exotic coconut and soy based ice creams, as well as Babycakes baked goods and chocolate from Cocoa V.
Though the ice cream was tempting, I was in more of a cupcake mood. Are you really surprised?
I chose a vegan gluten-free chocolate Babycakes cupcake.
Perfectly thick, moist and sweet. Basically, vegan heaven.
I walked back towards my apartment with Ada and Caronae, stopping for a free sample of Haagen Dazs chocolate milkshake along the way.
Now, I know I said I was taking a break from my beloved guacamole salads for awhile, but I had a perfectly ripe avocado that was just begging to be used…
With romaine, cucumbers, tomatoes, carrots, red onion and salsa.
“I just can’t quit you.”
Along with two pints of strawberries that were on their last leg:
For dessert, I had a chocolate brownie Larabar I found at Whole Foods yesterday.
Of all the new flavors, cookie dough is my favorite. I still have yet to try peanut butter chocolate, though!
Off to catch up on my reader! Sorry for being super behind on my blog reading lately :/
What’s the best cupcake you’ve ever had?
What was the highlight of your weekend so far?

I have yet to try the new Larabar flavors but chocolate chip brownie sounds delicious...not to mention the packaging is adorable! :)
Those cupcakes look heavenly! The best cupcake I have ever had is a tie between red velvet with cream cheese frosting and a s'mores cupcake I had at a wedding. Yum.
wow those cupcakes put all my cupcake experiences to shame! i guess thats why i was never a fan of cupcakes lol
highlight of weekend? hmmm, phone call with a pal and a trip to tj's:-)
xoxoxoxoxo
I went to vegan brunch in South Side today. vanilla cinnamon coffee cake is such a great hangover food!
You've had so many fun blogger meet-ups this weekend! That's awesome - and NYC looks like such a fun place. That grasshopper cupcake looks awesome - I love the combo of chocolate and mint. I've never been a huge cupcake fan - but I do like a good buttercream frosting, and of course I wouldn't pass up a carrot cake cupcake :P
Have a good Labor Day!
So jealous of your NYC cupcakes!!
The best part of my weekend was last night with some friends.
Have a great Labor day love!
i love your blog but sometimes reading it makes me really, really sad...although i try not to compare, i just look at your life and it seems so full and exciting, whereas i look at mine and it's just...ehh.
:/
but that's just motivation to keep chuggin' along and fightin' the fight so that one day i can get outta this town and live the life i dream, right?! right.
you're beautiful and an inspiration. never change!
The pb chocolate flavor is, in my opinion, easily the best larabar flavor! Definitely try it when you get a chance.
So much fun today, as always! Excited about Pure...
"In true Gabriela form, I demolished the frosting and fudge filling, but barely touched the cake part. Don’t judge me"
haha GIRL- SAME HERE! Id be fine with the icing!
ahha this post makes me soo jealous. I am craving nothing more than something sweet, and im also really craving peanut buttery tasting things! Right now Im eating pb cereal/cocoa cereal/graham cereal mix drizzled with marshmallow fluff! haha odd combo? :)
I wish I could say I have a favorite cupcake- I dont think Ive ever had an extravagant one like you did! Yours look sooo good. I want like, a peanut butter chocolate chupcake..!! :)
highlight of my weekend... hmm. Nothing really actually.. I did get my nails done yesterday.. does that count ? :)
I have been craving one of those "fancy" cupcakes for awhile now. I've never experienced one though! :( Must fix that.
And WF bar food can add up so fast! But its such good stuff.
Cocoa V near Chelsea Market has amazing vegan cupcakes - such a cute atmosphere as well!
I'm so jealous of your Lara bar, Gabriela! I live in Toronto - and we've yet to see any of the new flavors up here. Oh well. I'll have to justify another trip to NYC soon to stock up :)
The peanut butter chocolate Larabar might give the cookie dough one a run for its money! My favorite one is the chocolate chip brownie one, though :)
The highlight of my weekend was having a big family brunch this morning! I'm home for a little from college and forgot how much I love eating big family meals!
The best cupcake I've ever had... probably something from Kickass Cupcakes in Sommerville (across the river from Boston, should you ever be in town!)
They have crazy flavors. But I'd have to say the eggnog and chai pecan sticky are both up there!
Oooh although actually around DC, Hello Cupcake makes one called a Raspberry Beret that's super rich moist chocolate cupcake with a raspberry buttercreme that's also insane.
Basically, I like cupcakes as much as you do!
hey girlie!!
yummy eats for sure! I am a frosting loverrr to..the cake doesn't do it for me unless it's super moist! I hope you enjoy the rest of your holiday weekend, and noooooo way should u ever let an avocado get overly ripe! ;)
~highlight of my weekend=running for miles alongside wild horses!
xoxo!
chocolate brownie Larabar...have you ever had a clif kids Zbar in choco brownie? just wondering how they compare? I just tried the zbars for the first time a few mos ago and seriously, for what they are, i adore them!
your meetup looks awesome, caronae is a great girl and i read her blog and ive read ada's ages ago.
your trip to stogo, the vegan cupcake, that perfect WFs mango fruit, omg this whole post is outta this world!
and if you want mint in a vegan dessert, you have GOT to make my creme de menth bars. recipe on my site. my grandma used to love "grasshopper" anything from drinks to baked goods and i hadnt seen/thought of that word in ages, although that's indeed what my creme de menthe bars are.
thx for telling me you thought of me and my commment when you were eating that cupcake..i am honored b.c that thing looks like a beast! in the best possible way of course :)
xo
the grasshopper cupcake looks crazy good. i'd probably eat only the frosting too! yum yum. i think the best cupcake i ever had was a carrot cake cupcake from great harvest.
I've had a busy weekend with moving out and moving into my sorority, but I did have a great tapas dinner out with my parents and a family friend last night and caught up with my sister on skype tonight, which was fun.
im just starting to get the cupcake phenomenon, i've always been more of a fro yo/ice cream girl myself but i do love gluten free cupcakes, for some reason i feel they taste...more doughy?? and gluten free cookies, WOW chip, omg soooooooo good :D
Looks like you ahd quite the fun-filled and friend-fille dweekend, i don't blame you for taking a break with the camera yesterday!
What a lovely weekend! I would love to go crumbs one day and try some of those famous cupcakes for myself!
Those cupcakes: wow. That's all I got!
ahhh stogos, my fave! i love their red velvet ice cream! have you tried it? it has chunks of red velvet in it. ny seriously has the best vegan eats! lulus apothecary is super yummy too. and one lucky duck has the best raw vegan ice cream ever!!
and babycakes, yum =) i like their loafs (the pumpkin chocolate chip!) what i wanna try next time i go is the spelt biscuit with jam!
im actually not a cupcake fan... im the opposite of you in that i hate frosting but actually like the cakey part.. but i prefer muffin-texture more than cupcakes.
i think the highlight of my weekend was going to a local fish taco stand with my sister yesterday for lunch!
ps your blogger meetups look so funn!!! wish i could partake... maybe when im in the NYC area!
i love that you go through that many strawberries.. i could do the same! :) except i'd be going to the grocery store every 24 hours muahaha. still lovin on your blog girl ;)
I'm jealous of your weekend! So many fun meet ups and treats! :D I love mint chocolate cupcakes!
The best part of my weekend was just hanging out with my friends and going out for Greek food with them.
Ok now I'M in a cupcake mood! I actually live across the street from a bakery called Sugarland... my favorite cupcake ever is their vanilla chai one! Ooh and I loved my vanilla Magnolia cupcake in NYC. Also you MUST try the pb choco chip Lara! That one and the carrot cake are my faves :)
That cupcake you got yesterday looked super yummy. I'm so glad I got to see you before the onset of school and I hope we can all go to Pure in the near future! Have an awesome first day of classes girlie:)
I love avocado. I usually eat a 1/2 to a whole one a day!
Sooo jealous of your second cupcake! I like, can't stop dreaming about Crumbs. Haha!! I think we'll need to pay another visit there very, very soon :)

It's a toss up between cookie dough and peanut butter chocolate chip. I just can't get enough of those chocolate chips :)
I had a carrot cake cupcake the other day from a bakery by my office that was to die for!! But I will day one of the best I've ever had was Hummingbird...I LOVE spice cake. It looks like you had a great weekend, girl :)

It was great seeing you again yesterday! Your outfit just screamed then end of summer! That salad looks delicious! I really didn't like that flavor Larabar. It was TOO chocolatey for my tastebuds! Your pics turned out perfectly!
