I’ve heard of Levain Bakery before, but had never trekked uptown to try their infamous cookies until Caronae suggested a meetup there this afternoon.
The line outside was indicative of something delicious…
Levain only offers four flavors: chocolate chip walnut, dark chocolate chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin and dark chocolate peanut butter chip. After much deliberation, I finally selected the dark chocolate peanut butter chip.
Oh. My. God. People…there are no words. I know I get excited about sweets a lot, but I kid you not when I say this was the best cookie I’ve ever had in my life.
Thick. Gooey. Chocolatey. So buttery I could have greased a pan with my fingers. And HUGE.
It was phenomenal. Caronae and I spent a good ten minutes marveling at how they make the inside so perfectly gooey but still cooked. A perfect cross between a brownie and a cookie. I contemplated saving half for a post-dinner dessert, but it was just too good. I savored every last heavenly bite.
Caronae is officially my new favorite person for introducing me to these J We ended up chatting for an hour and a half…one-on-one meetups are great because you get to know each other so well!

Though I wasn’t very hungry after my massive cookie, I knew I’d crash if I didn’t get some “real food” into my stomach! Dinner, therefore, was another snack plate.
I’ve already researched imitation recipes. First step: replicate. Second step: veganize. I need more of these cookies in my life!
What’s the best cookie you’ve ever had?

Wow, that cookie does sound pretty amazing! Just with one look, I;m majorly craving chocolate now.
I'm online procrastinating doing homework right now, lol. They seriously were the best cookies ever. I think last time I had the choc chip walnut which was also wonderful. It's still keeping me full! I realized after we left that we forgot to take a picture of ourselves. Sad face. But at least we have blogs to record every thing in words.
Hope the rest of your evening was splendid! See you again soon!
I'm tempted to go in the kitchen and make cookies now. Damn that looks good!!
That cookie sounds SERIOUSLY amazing!!! LOVE any kind of cookie/brownie that are still slightly gooey and whatnot in the center.. so good!!!
Love ya!
HAH I loled at the "cookie of my dreams" comment! Love it! That tofu salad looks delish!!
The best cookie I remember having is the Otis Spunkmeyer ones that are huge and soft that I used to get a lunch in high school! I know they are overly processed and unhealthy, but I loved every gooey bite I used to take.
i want one of the levain cookies so bad!!
...i need, to try that COOKIE!! as soon as you listed the flavors I KNEW you were going to pick that pb chocolate one hahah I would have too!!! that looks so good- I love pb chips :)

That cookie looks absolutely amazing. I can't wait for you to veganize it!!!
Is it sad that my favorite cookies come from Subway? haha. Nothing can beat their white choc macademia in my opinion!!!
oh my goodness, looks sooo good.
Ok, this post makes me CRAVE a cookie. Specifically THAT cookie, haha! That's amazing, and so is tofu salad. I love the texture of tofu salad, is that wierd? Haha.
Glad you had such a good weekend, you deserve nothing less girl!
that cookie looks amazing!
best cookie? the chocolate chip cookie my grandma used to make...with potato chips. ;)
Ahhh that cookie looks so good! The best one I've had is this place (dangerously) across the street from me that makes the most ooey gooey cookies with oreos baked into them. Ahhhmazing!
How do you make that tofu salad? It looks so good!
Have a great week chica!!

Yum- that cookie looks great. I have not met a cookie I didn't like or at least tolerate. I don't have one that stands out in my mind, so I might have to make it over to this bakery when I'm in town next month!
ahhhh coookies heaven!!!
and that pineapple looks SO FRESH! yum!
I agree with the shorter/faster/lighter stride, it helps take pressure off the knees for sure!
I hope you have a great week ahead of you!
xoxo!
i'm not sure what the best cookie i've EVER had was but i'm sure chocolate was involved.
these are the one liners that just show a seasoned blogger from others.
"So buttery I could have greased a pan with my fingers."
God, i love you! That is so perfect!!!
The cookies, i prob would have picked the one you did or just the reg dark choc not pb chips. However, when oatmeal raisin cookies are done right, they are seriously amazing.
The cookies...veganizing them. There are a TON of books out there that if all you care is about veganizing, and you can still use gluten flour, i.e. regular flour, you're in. Easy. I have about 25 books that all have "the best choc chip cookie you've ever tasted" recipes in them...but they are all gluten containing so i havent tried them :)
I would have LOVED to meet up w/ you and Caronae...what an amazing time it would have been. I commented on her site too that i wished i could meet you both!
Levain Bakery is the best! I live right around there and know the owners personally. They are super nice and awesome triathletes:) I'm glad you got to undergo the foodgasmic experience of eating their cookie!
Ooh I'm going to ignore the fact that I have a nut allergy and agree that that cookie DOES look amazing! Good luck with trying to replicate the recipe.
It's kind of sad, but the only cookies I've really been able to eat are my mom's homemade ones. Luckily she's an awesome baker! She makes seriously amazing chocolate cayenne cookies.
That cookie looks delicious! I love anything that has peanut butter in it. Mmm...I must go to Levain Bakery asap!
Levain! I've had the dark chocolate peanut butter one and the chocolate chip walnut and would have to say that even though they were both incredible, the choc chip walnut wins.
That cookie looks so good! Chocolate and peanut butter? What could be better! So jealous girl! =)
Ohhh - that does sound the most amazing cookie!!!
the best cookies i've ever had is at a hotel! It's called Double Tree. When you check into your room, they hand you freshly baked oatmeal chocolate chip cookies.
I even found their recipe online! Their secret was lemon juice?
Which made me think....i bet their are levain bakery copycat recipes.
I found one this morning. It looks pretty close! I sort of want to try it out
ah when there's a line outside a place, you know it's good! looking forward to that recipe!
Great, it's not even 10am and you have me craving a giant fudgy cookie!! The best cookie I've ever had was at a restaurant once.. just plain choco chip, but they brought them out piping hot and with a glass of milk! Amazing.
Ahh! I'm dying. That cookie looks ridiculous. By the way, my mom clicked on your link on one of your comments on my blog and she was like "is that blonde girl with the french name one of the girls you saw in New York? She's gorgeous!"
I must say that I've never met a cookie I DIDN'T like! Hence why they're one of my favorite foods ;) The best cookie I've ever had is the white chocolate macadamia that a family friend (who also happens to be a chef/caterer) makes. It. Is. HEAVENLY!! I'm also a huge fan of Montana Whoppers, which I usually don't make until Christmas time. Here's the recipe! http://www.tasteasyougo.com/2009/07/montana-whoppers.html
That cookie does look amazing! Never heard of that place but I must go there asap!!
OMG I just discovered this place a little while ago too! http://40apples.wordpress.com/2010/08/19/cookie-of-my-dreams/ Their cookies are ridiculous.... sacrilegious as it may sound, they are almost just a little too buttery (for my taste)... but still an amazing experience. I just had a pumpkin whoopie pie that just might be my new favorite cookie, if that's considered a cookie! ;)
