All Moved In!

I’m all moved in!!

My first place. So excited!

It’s never a home without my pictures.

And cookbooks, of course ;)

* * *

This morning, I finished packing and said goodbye to this:

It’s always a bit sentimental to leave my childhood room. I’ve lived in the same house since I was born, and I don’t think I’ll ever find a place quite as comforting as this space.

Before we hit the road, I downed a bowl of Cheerios with blackberries, a sliced peach and almond milk.

Once we’d gotten into the city and dropped my stuff off at the apartment, my parents and I went out to lunch.

After strolling around for a bit, we settled on Quantum Leap, a pescatarian restaurant bordering NYU’s campus.

The menu was incredible! So many awesome-sounding options. I started off with a glass of fresh-squeezed carrot-ginger juice.

Delicious. I love how the heat of the ginger counteracted the sweetness of the carrots.

To honor my serious salt craving, I settled on the asian soba salad:

Chilled Japanese soba tossed with Asian veggies, with green seaweed, hiziki, marinated tofu, green & red cabbages in our wasabishoyu sauce.

Loved this. It’s been awhile since I had seaweed salad, and it totally hit the spot.

I really enjoyed the hiziki as well- it definitely killed my salt craving!

My mom had the Middle Eastern platter, which included Arabic spiced falafel, tabouleh salad, and hummus spread with salad, tortilla chips and pita bread.

And my dad chose the baked lentil-walnut burger, a mix of lentils, tempeh, veggies and walnuts.

Which came with the most perfectly crispy fries!

I stole a bite of his sandwich and a ton of his fries- so good. I want to try to recreate the patty!

Overall, it was a great meal- the prices are extremely reasonable, the staff was very friendly and knowledgeable, and the food was delicious! I can definitely see myself going there again.

Afterwards, we walked around for a bit and eventually stopped into Crumbs for a cupcake to share.

My mom chose the cappuccino flavor. Not the best one I’ve had, but with that much chocolate and frosting, I’m not complaining!

I probably ate a little less than half J

Mom and Dad left soon thereafter, leaving me to unpack everything.

While organizing everything, I snacked on a super-juicy tangelo.

As well as several spoonfuls of Barney Butter and Justin’s chocolate hazelnut butter while I stirred them!

For dinner, I had a quick and easy sandwich.

Ezekiel bread slathered with Justin’s chocolate hazelnut butter, plus an apple.

This flavor of Justin’s is life-changing, by the way. I couldn’t resist a few post-dinner spoonfuls J

I also had a few slices of TJ’s chili-spiced mango and a chocolate-raspberry Attune bar.

Well loves, I’m about to make some tea and blog-read in bed. It’s been ages since I’ve caught up on all your lives! Have a great Monday!

How many times have you moved in your life?

What little touches make your “house” a “home?

ahh i love your new place!!!! its so lovely and cozy!

i can't believe i've never heard of quantum leap... i spent all summer last year in lower manhattan and probably went to EVERY single veg restaurant there.. i guess theres more to try! food looks delicious.

ive only moved once, officially, in terms of houses, but ever since i started college a few years ago, ive been moving like crazy... first from california to new england (where i go to school) - back and forth - then to new york for awhile, and now im studying abroad in florence, italy! so more moving!!! i still consider california "home" though

in terms of little touches... i think having my coffee/tea mugs really makes a difference... opening up windows and buying fresh flowers also make a place so much homier!

During my childhood I lived in the same home. When I was in college I lived in 4 different rooms/apartments. Then I moved back home iwth the 'rents and just moved out over the summer!

Home isn't home without pictures - I totally agree!

Ahhh how exciting!! I am in LOVE with your exposed brick wall. Love. Also, that carrot/ginger juice looks heavenly.

I've moved 10 times in my life. Ug...I hate it. And putting things on the walls always makes it feel more homey to me, too...curtains, pictures, art, clocks...I've just got to fill up that blank space!

I've only moved once, from my parents' house to the home I now share with my husband.
Ooohh... you just reminded me that I haven't had seaweed salad in a while, as strange as it sounds, j'adore les algues LOL!

Love you apartment! How fun! I'm living in a house this year with 4 of my best friends and I'm so excited to have my own big room and a big kitchen and everything! :)
Also, love all your eats-- so yum. I have a whole caravan of nut butters accompanying me to school this week, hehe.

When I lived in an apartment during college, it never *truly* felt like home. I think that's mainly because I was living with 2 other girls, so I never felt like I could entirely settle in. That's why I think you made such a great choice by living on your own! You can really home-ify the place :)

Can't wait to come see the place in person! Oh, and there better be delicious eats involved *cough* cupcakes *cough* ;)

my bestie used to live right above quantum! i've never been but alwaaays wanted to try it! i think that salad you got looks like it would hit the salty spot perfectly :)

omg your room is darling!!! i wish mine looked as nice and homey!!!!

maybe it's because i've moved too many times in my life...makes it hard to customize my room and make it homey! at least i have a few picture frames with me all the time!

Wow your place looks great! Now is this where you are living this year for school? Any roommates? Where in NYC is it? Haha the summer I interned in Manhattan I actually lived in Hoboken at Steven's Institute of Technology. My frat has a chapter there, so I lived in their frat house...what a great summer!

Have you been to John's Pizzeria in the Theatre District, a couple blocks of time square? They have a coal fire pizza oven still- the pizza/meal I had in New York

Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga) said...

omg your first pad is nicer than many people who are in their 40s have! or older! or who never have. hardwood and stainless and granite. And you're not even legal yet. Girl, congrats!!!!!!!

Anyway how many times have i moved, well I dont count anything before age 21 as i probably moved 15-20 times between ages 16 when i left home til age 21. And from then, I've moved about 13-15 times since then. I have moved...tons. More than most people could ever dream of. I've lived all over the country and within the same city, in many diffrent houses and different locales within the city. Moving and seeing new things is rewarding and great...but I would like to stay put now :)

Your comment to me about blogging 2x and it actually SAVING you time. I am such a perfectionist i feel like i would just get sucked in 2x a day, not 1x a day to it all. That i could never truly do a 20-30 min post. That it would be 2 45-60 min posts, not just 1 75 min post.

From here on out tho, i am going to WAY WAY WAY cut down the size!

Erika @ Health and Happiness in LA said...

Congratulations on moving in! I love that brick wall.

I have moved a billion times. If I was actually going to count, it would still be upward of 20. I am living in my first adult apartment post-college, and I guess someday when I have an apartment without a roommate will be another milestone. Moving is fine, you get used to the new place surprisingly quickly, I find.

Freya said...

Wow your own place - that's amazing! It looks gorgeous too - you have the exact same taste in style as me! Are you living in New York still, in the city?
I've only ever moved once, when I was 2 (and once to move to uni but it doesn't really count). I can't wait to move out though and start LIVING properly - this post just makes me want to even more!
Pictures make things home-y, without a doubt :)

Your new apartment is AMAZING! I love the brick walls!! I'm moving into a new dorm room today and besides that, I've moved like 20 billion times in my life.

Have a great day :)

After moving in and out of college dorms & apartments 4 times I was happy to not do it again this fall...glad you got everything back to school ok though!
Your new apartment looks so nice, I'm jealous!!

Your apartment is so pretty. Moving into your first place is so exciting girlie! I've moved ten times in ten years, maybe a few too many times! My house doesn't feel like home until my Kitchenaid is on the counter and Molly's food and water bowls are out.

It's so sad to leave the rooms we've grown up in! Your new place looks beautiful though. You look like you're already settling right in! :)

My family has moved homes once, and I've lived in two different places at university. And I'll probably have to move again at the end of this year. It's such a hassle!

Your new place is so cute! Love the kitchen and exposed brick wall - you go girl. Aw, childhood room - too cute! I love 'touches' to make it my home - definitely pictures and momentos!!

I haven't moved too much. Moved to an apartment in Auburn from home. THen to another apartment in Auburn for grad school. Then to Alpharettta (apartment) then to Buckhead (loft), and then to our house in Alpharetta!! Not too bad for 23 years right?!

What a pretty place! It has a lot of character.

I love your new place! I just moved to a new apartment this summer, and we are still not 100% done with putting everything in its place. It's ridiculous how much work it really takes to make a house a home.

looks like you found a beautiful apartment! (love that exposed brick wall.) totally jealous you found a pescetarian restaurant, i didn't even know they existed! :)

Hi honeybee! I'm just doing some late-night catching up on yo fabby posts!

All I have to say is that I'm moving in with you. That apartment is gorge.

I'm loving all the nut butter love. And the 'cado love!

Oh! And do I recall that you tried the TJ's balls? :)

I think what makes a house a home is time and the people and memories you share the space with. I lived in my Athens house for two years, but it never quite felt like home.

Hope your week's off to a lovely start! xoxoxo

What a lovely apartment! I ADORE the exposed brick walls. And I totally agree that photos make it Home. In the past couple of years I've been collecting old cameras and displaying them around the living room for a fun tie-in. My most favorite is the one that belonged to my grandpa when he was little. :)

Also - that soba salad looks unbeliiievable!

annelies said...

Wow. I think both your room at your house and your new apt. are fabulous. Love the natural light and brick walls. So fun. If you are in the east village- have you been to dirt candy yet- love it. :) Congrats on moving into the new space!
