Hi pretties! I’m posting during the day today because my parents will be in the city this evening, and I want to have the night free to spend with them! We’re going to Candle 79 for dinner, which I am SUPER excited for J
Yesterday morning I woke up and had a massive bowl of CEREAL to fuel me for the run I had planned with Mike:
Fiber One, banana and almond milk. Thank God for my stomach of steel.
Afterwards, I headed up to meet Mike for our run through the Bronx Botanical Gardens. It’s a gorgeous place to run, especially on a beautiful day…we did six miles in 52:02, which I was pretty proud of considering the amount of hills there! I give Mike a hard time for always telling me to run harder and faster, but I have to admit he’s good at pushing me to do my best…I wish I’d been training with him the whole time!
For lunch post-run, I met up with a friend from high school who was visiting her boyfriend who also goes to Mike’s school. We went to Tino’s, an incredible Italian deli with some of the best Italian food I’ve ever had. The veggie options are kind of limited (lots of soprassetta and prosciutto), but my Caprese hero with mozzarella, tomato, basil, oil and vinegar definitely didn’t disappoint:
After lunch, I headed back into the city to pick up my race packet at the expo in midtown. I grabbed some of my favorite candies on the way to feed my sugar addiction:
The expo was really neat! It was my first time ever going to one, and free stuff is always good in my book! I bought two pairs of Mizuno spandex running shorts for five bucks a pop, plus three pairs of running socks for twelve dollars. I also sampled a free Skinny Water they were giving out:
Your name sucks, but you taste delicious.
My favorite part of the goody bag was the free Lululemon headband…hot pink, my favorite color! I’ll post a pic when I wear it.
On my way home, I munched on the top of this blueberry muffin that Mike handed off to me. He’d gotten it by accident after ordering a chocolate chip, and I was happy to take it off his hands:
I also snacked on an apple before heading back uptown to meet Mike at Chola, an Indian restaurant in midtown. We knew it was going to be good when we sat down and were surrounded by people speaking in Indian…it’s always a good sign when people of that ethnicity flock to a certain foreign restaurant! We started off with an appetizer of vegetable samosas (sorry for the atrocious camera pics):
Potatoes, peas and carrots in a pyramid of deep fried dough. I don’t even need to tell you how good these were.
I didn’t manage to snap too many pictures since it was dark and I didn’t want to use a flash, but Mike and I split some coconut rice and habernaro garlic naan to accompany our entrees. I choose the bhuni gobi matter, which was a combination of potatoes, peas, cumin, coriander and ginger:
Habernaro garlic naan
Bhuni gobi matter with coconut rice (times 100000)
Holy foodgasms. This was the absolute best Indian food I’ve ever had. I wish I’d taken a picture of the entire table, just to show you how much we devoured. The coconut rice was especially outstanding, full of lentils, coconut, curry leaves and ginger. I want to recreate it so badly! I highly recommend this restaurant to any NYC-ers. We left with food babies and spent the rest of the night hanging out at my apartment, too full and tired to do much else. There may or may not have been some dark chocolate consumed as well…I’m never too full for my nightcap J
This morning I had some Fiber One, frozen blackberries and almond milk for breaky:
I took the day off from the gym to be well-rested for tomorrow, but took a half hour walk around the West Village just to get my legs moving a little. I came home, did 45 minutes of stretching, and made lunch not long after:
Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana Protein Oats: ½ c oats, 1 c almond milk, 2 scoops chocolate rice protein powder, 1 T cocoa powder, 2 T chia seeds, 1 T flax seeds, sliced banana and a scoop of Maranatha PB
Carb loading at it’s finest. I also had some carrots and hummus and two clementines for fruit and veg. I spent a few hours packing up some things to send home with my parents (to facilitate moving out next week!), and had a snack while typing this:
Fuji (those of you who follow me on Twitter know I saw Blake Lively while buying these this morning!), and a Chocolate Peanut Butter protein Luna from the depths of my bar drawer
I’ll leave you with something funny/disturbing I found this morning on one of my celeb gossip sites. Ahh, the wonders of photoshop!
Don’t forget to email me any pictures you took of the love on your arm if you celebrated TWLOHA day! I’ll probably put them up on Monday. I'll be taking tonight off from blogging and commenting, so have a great night loves!
Do you have a workout buddy, or do you prefer to work out alone? I really enjoy the “me time” of a long run, but I also like having someone to push me sometimes!

Have fun at Cnadle 79!! We loved it!
i always work out alone to my workout DVDs, sometimes my bf watches me whilst on his laptop but its good either way! :) looove indian food :) xx
Your food looks awesome, as always! And you're right, that label is ridiculous...it's like having a diet version of water or something. I gotta say, I like running alone because I sounds ridiculous trying to carry on a conversation, but I like taking yoga and zumba classes with friends. Then you have someone to make silly faces at during the hard poses! Have a great weekend, girl!
Ahhh, the food looks absoultely amazing! Congrats on a great run, and it's always great to have someone push you! ...just not too hard! :) Have so much fun tonight with the parentals!
Carb loading = good times. Your bowl of oats sounds and looks uhhh-mazing. I will have to try that combo SOON!
Glad you had a good run girlie. The majority of the time, I workout alone but I would love to have a running buddy. Too bad we don't live closer!
Hope you have a wonderful weekend gorgeous!
That is SO COOL that you saw Blake Lively! I'm in absolute love with her hair. If only, huh!
All of your food always looks fabulous girl, you make me crave cold cereal!! And blueberry muffin tops are my absolute favorite muffin anything, yum!
Sounds like you got some amazing stuff at the expo! I've never been to one before but I bet i's a lot of fun! You're going to ROCK your race girl!
Have fun tonight!
Love you!
"Thank God for my stomach of steel." That gave me a good laugh :) But can we trade stomachs? Pretty pleaseeee? Mine is much too fussy for my liking.
When I worked out, it was usually alone. But I'd really love to have a workout buddy; it's always nice to get motivation from someone else or try and work harder yourself to be the motivation for someone else.
Hope you have a great night with your parents, hun!
GOOD LUCK ON YOUR RACE LOVE!!!!!!!!!
Loving the Indian Food!! Wow it sounds amazing and what you got sounded so good!! I cant wait to go out for Indian again!!!!
Awwwwwwww so cool your parents are coming in! Have a wonderful night with them beautiful and have a yummy dinner! I know that is your fave place!!!!!
Love the oats, look delish! I have to recreate those for myself for breakfast soon!!!
Love ya girl!! Enjoy your night!!!!
Sounds like you and Mike have been having a lot of fun!
Good luck on your race and have a great time with your parents girl!
It just depends on what I am doing. When I treadmill at home, I am by my lonesome.
Sometimes I go to my boyfriend's gym, and so obviously I have a buddy then. I don't mind working out with other people though. Even if they are not there to push me, it is nice to know that they are there if I need them too.
Werthers were my absolute favourite as a kid! My Meme always had some stashed in her purse and around her house for me. :)
That indian food looks/sounds so good! Glad you're having such a fantastic weekend!
SERENA!!! that is soooo cool you saw her!! i want to live in NY with you!!
soo cute yall went running together! me and my bf are TOO competitive!! haha!!
GIRL i need to find that luna!
i like to work out alone but go on walks w. ppl!
LOVE YOU!
I prefer to workout with a buddy...good thing my twin sister likes to workout too!! Haha we always workout together!
Your blueberry muffin inspired me to have a blue bran Vitatop this afternoon. Not quite the same...but it did the trick!
i definately wouldve been all immature and like "can i have ur autograph!?" hahah im gay like that!
have fun tonight!
we must still meet up one day!!! schools almost over which means tons of free time!xoxoxo
Was Blake's hair as amazing in person?
I prefer to workout alone, but I love going to club soccer practice and running around with other girls who just want to have a little fun.
Still haven't tried Indian food and I really need to after looking at yours. Well done on the run, I usually run by myself cause none of my friends run. Enjoy the evening with your parents!
Wow, great score on the shorts!
I love Indian food too! A special trip to NYC might be in order...
That's so cool that you saw Blake Lively! How did it happen?
I usually workout by myself...not too many of my friends are "fitnessistas," so there really isn't anyone to push me. But when I find that someone, watch out! ;-)
ahh! i wanted to go to that expo so badly! coulnd't find anyone to go with me to the city :(
glad you had fun though.
and SUPER exciting you saw blake lively! i love her!!
as for working out, i prefer classes. but only kickboxing classes. there is this place that has teh BEST classes around ( a real CONSTANT cardio, not a "kick this, stop, punch this stop" workout). it whoops my butt and i love it.
but days i dont do that, i do enjoy running or biking alone- i like the "me" time too and sometimes i feel like others can slow you down if they arent your pace.
on another note- im giving away some silk almond milk on my website- i know you might be interested!! :)
xox
Ooh, enjoy Candle 79! It's off the hook. And I'm jealous you saw Blake Lively--she's gorgeous!
I definitely like working out alone. I like to think and sweat all within my own little anonymous bubble.
Great run chica!!! And good luck at your race!!! You'll rock it, I know it! ;)
I wish I had more running buddies here in DC. I have a few but our schedules are off so it's so hard to get together regularly. But I totally agree, I do love the "me time" :)
xx,
Laur
It must have been nice to have a running buddy! Especially one that encourages/pushes you. I'm not sure if that'd help me though...I always say that the only person that can motivate me is ME!
Oh, and regarding the comment you left me: Proud member of the IBTC <-- haha, hope you get that :)
Have a great night girlie!
i like that pb luna but i think the cookie dough one is better of the same variety. as bars go.
and in h.s. i loved werthers. i mean those were my go to candy! i kinda outgrew them but i still love those lil things!
i like to workout alone. peace and frickin quiet!
Hope you enjoy the family time, how exciting!
I'm a bit of a solo workout gal when it comes to running and biking. I'm a bit short and get annoyed when people get ahead of me! I take frequent breaks and hate holding my boyfriend or other friends up. ;)
When it comes to long walks, dance, or other cardio classes- the more friends the better. It is so fun to have other people along.
I prefer working out with someone when there is the opportunity because it's more fun having someone to talk to, but i tend to get more done when I workout alone sooooooooooooooooo. it's like there's pros and cons of both, ya know?
Everything looks amazing. I love Candle! Haven't been in ages though.
I saw your tweet about blake lively! how exciting!
great job w/ that run and conquering those hills! I did some yesterday and man it was tough! but doesn't it feel great afterwards?!
and that indian food looks amazing! I can't wait to see what you think of Candle !
I hate it when they name things like "skinny water" and then everyone who sees you drinking it assumes you are trying to lose weight...ugh
I have such a love/hate relationship with that Skinny Water. It tastes SO GOOD but I am totally against their branding technique. I just call it healthy water :)
dinner looks amaze! can you believe I've never had Indian food? I know, I know, I should be shunned from blogworld.
amazing run, sweetpea! Mike sounds like such a good workout body. Y'all are so lucky to have each other!
have a beautiful sunday, mi amor. Love you!
I am snacking on a peanut butter Luna protein bar as I read your post...ironic. The hubs will usually try to run with me once on the weekend but other than that I workout solo. I wish I had a workout buddy, but no one from my school or circle of friends is real active. I blame the Texas mentality.
Sometimes I want to exercise by myself and sometimes I love having company. It really depends on how I feel, and also who the other person would be. I know that sounds sort of mean, but I don't intend for it to!
I hope you're having an absolutely fabulous weekend :)
Rachael*
P.S. Every time I go onto your blog I get mad fiberone cravings! Yummm..
I used to enjoy working out with someone but lately I enjoy work out alone! i agree- it's nice ME time
gahh! a free luluemon headband! (i can't spell haha) but seriously that's such a score :)
hope you had a fab-o time at candle 79! can't wait to hear all about it!
Hope you had a great time last night girl with your family and an amazing dinner!!!!!!!!!!!
U should get sushi and do a suprise night for your mike too!!!!!! He would love that! He is lucky to have you!!
Have a great Sunday girl!!!!! xoxo
love love love werthers. that is all i have to say. my mom and i used to pop those things in like tic tacs during church to keep us attentive and awake. :)
Can't believe you got something lululemon related for FREE! I love lululemon :) It's an obsession, but I don't mind it ;)
I wish there were some expos like this here, I would totally attend!
