Housekeeping


I’ve already gotten so much accomplished today. Yay for productivity!

Despite the sweltering temperatures this morning, I breakfasted on a bowl of strawberry-banana-coconut oats.


  • ½ c oats
  • 1 c almond milk
  • very overripe banana (hence the oats instead of cereal!)
  • strawberries
  • two spoonfuls of coconut butter

My trick to making oats is to add all the ingredients while they’re still cooking. It may not be as pretty, but there’s nut butter and fruit in each bite!

Since Gracie will be here tomorrow morning and I’m not sure of my Saturday night/Sunday morning plans yet, I decided to swap days in my training plan and tackle my five-miler this morning.

I started off strong, but got a horrible cramp in my side at the very end of mile 2. (I barely ever get cramps…anyone know the culprit?) I ended up taking a .25 mile walking break, which threw me off a bit, but I still managed to hustle at the end!


My stats:

  • Mile 1: 9:06
  • Mile 2: 10:00
  • Mile 3: 11:02 (walking break)
  • Mile 4: 9:02
  • Mile 5: 8:46
  • Total Time: 48:15
After some stretching, I was hungry for an early lunch!


Nut butter sammie on Ezekiel bread (1 slice with Barney Butter, 1 slice with Justin’s Chocolate Hazelnut butter)


Apple with cinnamon


Carrots with mustard for dipping


And a bowl of pickles!


Do I even need to mention the nut butter spoons that went on after this meal? It’s becoming a (delicious) habit J

This afternoon, I’ve taken care of all the “housekeeping” chores! I hit up the laundromat:


Restocked the produce drawer:


And gave the apartment a scrubdown. It’s amazing how quickly these things pile up- I’ve only been here since Sunday!



Off to grab a snack and meet Gracie at the train station. So excited!

What are your favorite/least favorite chores? I actually really like cleaning, but doing laundry in the hot laundromat wasn’t too fun!

Do you ever get cramps when you exercise? Any tips for avoiding them?

Umm I hate ALL chores. I like cleaning up the kitchen. That is it.

Tip for avoiding the cramps while exercising = stay VERY hydrated.

haha Im with jess! I don't mind cleaning up the kitchen! but hate most chores!! i HATE unloading the dishwasher grrrr

Every now and then I get a baaaad cramp. My only tip is to stop running and STRETCH the area while breathing. Somehow this combo helps me. Other times nothing works and I go for a nice walk :)

Congrats on your productive day! I woke up at 1pm! hahaha

My favorite chore is cleaning the kitchen because then it's ready to cook in again! My least favorite is definitely my room! Hah, I don't know why but I clean it usually once a week and by day 6 it is a complete mess again! If only I could do a little each day...
I get cramps sometimes I runs and I never know what to do :( I usually slow down my pace or walk (like you did) and wait for it to go away. Have a good day!

I am so jealous of your kitchen! I love it!!!

My least favorite chore is PUTTING AWAY laundry!!! I don't mind washing it or folding it...I just hate putting it away.

My best advice for running cramps is drinking lots of water before and during exercise! Cramps are a buildup of lactic acid, so staying hydrated helps to flush it out of the muscles.

I am the worlds worst cleaner, everytime I clean something my dad goes "you cleaned that?!".... I can cook,but cleaning is not my forte. Or I will do laundry and my dad always comments on how I do it...so I leave laundry to him haha

GIRL YOU WERE A MACHINE today! love all the productivity you had going on there :) and i'm loving the volumptiousness of that bowl of oaties!

haha i actually don't mind doing the dishes! and loading the dishwasher, etc. But I HATE vaccumming like more then anything in the world!

I love your kitchen! I love cleaning, too, but dusting is my least favorite. I wish I could hire a maid just for that.

I love cleaning. It drives me crazy when things are dirty/out of order. I love sweeping and keeping the kitchen clean.

I love the apartment photos... I LOVE interior brick walls.

I don't mind cleaning, either... I LOVE a fresh clean kitchen and bath. I like vacuuming, but can generally only do it when Jason is home, so he can take Basil outside or into another room. :) Basil SCREAMS at the vacuum. (Basil = dachshund.) :)

My least favorite chore would be cleaning toilets. I ABSOLUTELY HATE IT and gag every time.

I don't get cramps with lifting but with cardio I do a lot. They say it's either from not breathing enough or your stomach is trying to digest something and the blood flow is getting diverted.. but I'm not exactly sure what causes mine!

glad you're enjoying oatmeal in the heat, too! i've been loving it every day this week...although the temp has been over 90! but it's so yummy!
i like grocery shopping, laundry, vaccuming; i really dislike cleaning the kitchen and dusting. but i like a clean casa, so i do it all!

I'm not a fan of laundry, either :P Don't mind cleaning in general, though. If I'm in the mood, it's really fun to me, actually! haha. Looks like you got a lot done! Hooray for productivity :)
And I know whenever I've gotten a cramp it was because I hadn't been drinking enough. Maybe that was the problem?

Looks like a great run.

I usually stir my stuff into my oats too, except for my peanut butter. I find the flavour gets lost a bit when it's stirred in - do you find that happens at all?

I love cleaning the kitchen, i dont know why but when its clean, i love it! my only issue is i hate doing the dishes, scrubbing pots and pans is so not fun! i love my room when its clean too! that sandwhich looks so delicious! have a nice day!

cramps could be anything from bathroom issues to hydration to ovulation to a kidney infection..it's impossible to really say! but as long as it doesnt come back or frequently, i think it's just one of life's lil quirks that we all get. as a kid, i was the side-stitch queen but grew out of them and now, like once every couple years only will get one randomly

ANAL on housework and a clean house. Omg I cannot!!!!! live in a messy house. Everything MUST be neat, clean, tidy, super organized. And i have a 3 yr old. No excuses for messes in this house :)

I am completely with you on the chore prefs - I actually really enjoy cleaning the kitchen, but for some reason I HATE laundry. I try not to let that keep me from doing it regularly ;)

Cramps are the worst. Just when you're feeling good, one hits and renders you helpless. Ugh! I have no magical advice on that one... except maybe just try to be careful what you eat ahead of time (not that that's helped me much in the past!).

I sometimes get cramps too and I have no idea why! I read in Women's Health magazine that flexing that muscle and massaging it is supposed to help. :)

Your apartment looks so tidy! I love your little table area. I don't mind cleaning, but I hate mowing the lawn! I can't wait to get back to my apartment at university so that I don't have to do it anymore lol!

I get cramps if I eat to soon before I exercise, if I have not exercised in a few days and go out to hard, and number one reason HYDRATION!

I used to get cramps too, but then I started drinking water before I worked out. That might not be the best idea if you're going for a 5 miler though, haha.

I know what you mean about stuff in the apartment piling up! I moved into my apartment on Sunday too, and I can't believe how much extra work it is to clean and do dishes three times a day. C'est la vie!
