It’s hot in New York right now. Like, really hot. So hot that the air coming up from the subway grates feels kind of cool. Since the whole city is basically one big sauna, what better way to find respite from the heat than with a frozen dessert?

Recently, I was contacted about trying the Soft Serve Fruit Co., a fruit-based soft serve brand that recently opened a new location in Union Square.

I tried their treats once before when they were known as Simply Peeled and loved them, so I was excited to give the new place a try! Their soft serve is made with only three ingredients: water, fresh fruit and organic cane sugar. Meaning it’s dairy free, gluten free, fat free and totally refreshing.

Today’s menu contained four flavors: banana, mango, strawberry and blueberry,

As well as a ton of fresh fruit, chocolate chips, nuts and other fun toppings.

The shop generously hooked me up with not one but three creations to try! First, I chose my own mix: mango with chocolate chips and strawberries.

I’d say this was the most refreshing of the three, with the lightest taste and texture. Mango is one of my favorite fruits and flavors in general, so I loved how simple it was.

I also got to try the banana flavor, topped with warm peanut butter drizzle, chocolate chips and pomegranate seeds:

As much as I love homemade banana soft serve, this was way creamier and genuinely had a soft serve consistency. Plus, you can’t go wrong with peanut butter, chocolate and banana! I especially liked the way the hot peanut butter hardened onto the cool cream.

And finally, my favorite: blueberry topped with slivered almonds, coconut and honey.

Hands down the winning combination. It was just the perfect blend of flavors and textures, and the sweetness of the honey was amazing on top of the other components.

What I liked most about this place was that it offered options for everyone. It’s healthier than traditional frozen yogurt, and literally anyone can enjoy it, regardless of their intolerances or dietary choices. Plus, it’s fruit, so you can eat as much as you want. Right? Right ;)
Thank you so much to Soft Serve Fruit Co. for having me!
