While New York is full of fancy, famous restaurants, it also has its fair share of casual places that are just as good in a different way. This morning, I went to brunch with some friends at Silver Spurs, a classic diner in the Village.
This place is fairly close to NYU’s campus, so I’d walked by it a million times but never eaten there. The menu was pretty standard, but the interior was slightly more Manhattan-ified than a usual greasy spoon, with a Western theme.
For some reason, I just can’t do breakfast foods at lunchtime, so I ordered the Salada Laguardia, with mixed greens, raw veggies, asparagus, olives, capers, vinaigrette and big piece of grilled salmon.
I was impressed by how big and colorful this was! Usually diner “salads” are a plate of iceberg lettuce with a few things thrown on top.
One of my friends ordered a BLT with the most amazing fries that I had several of:
And others got pancakes, eggs and toast.
After brunch, we wandered down to Broadway, where there was a street fair going on.
I got a huge cup of watermelon chunks. Perfect in the heat.
It was sweltering hot but still kind of a fun way to spend the afternoon! Random stuff like this is one of the best things about living in a big city.
We went out pretty late last night, so tonight is looking a bit more calm with dinner and cake! Hope you’re enjoying your weekend!
What’s your favorite type of diner food? I do love Belgian waffles, just never in the morning. I can never understand why they won’t serve breakfast food at dinnertime…
