A few of my high school friends are in the city this weekend, so this afternoon I met up with a few girls for lunch at Mercer Kitchen, an American Nouveau restaurant in Soho.

The decor of this place was really trendy and cool. The main dining room is in the basement, complete with glass grates that allow in light from the street above.

The menu combined brunch favorites and lunch-type entrees. To start, they brought us pieces of sourdough bread.

I had trouble deciding between a few items on the menu, but in the end I decided on the bagel with lox. I’ve had bagels and I’ve had lox, but never the two together!

It was a pretty basic meal, but just what I wanted.

My dining companions got the eggs benedict:

And two girls got the chicken sandwich with bacon and avocado. I swiped a few of their potato chips and it might have been my favorite part of the meal- I’m pretty sure they were homemade.

The food was good, but I think at Mercer Kitchen you’re really paying for the atmosphere- the prices aren’t exactly cheap, but it’s worth it if you want a fun environment and some good people watching.

Going to have somewhat of a lazy afternoon before going out tonight. Hope you’re enjoying your weekend!

What’s your favorite way to eat bagels? I think the lox topping might just be my new favorite. I loved the combination of salt + carbs.
