Sushi is one of my all-time favorite restaurant meals. A few years ago I went through a period where I was probably getting it once every few weeks, at which point I kind of ODed on it and laid off on the raw fish for awhile. Lately I’ve been craving sashimi, though, so when Ada suggested we try Blue Ribbon Sushi for our meetup tonight, I happily agreed.
I’ve heard great things about this place and it’s kind of famous, so I was surprised by how nondescript the entrance was. There wasn’t even a sign to mark it!
After browsing the menu, though, I could understand why this place is so popular. It was full of unusual sounding Japanese dishes that were definitely way more unique and authentic sounding than your run-of-the-mill rolls.
I ended up going with my favorite, a sashimi platter: salmon, tuna, mackerel and fluke.
The fish was really fresh, and while usually I prefer the tuna to salmon, this time the salmon won out. There was barely any fishiness to it- it just tasted like straight salmon. If that makes any sense at all.
Ada chose two rolls: a vegetable one and a Kyuri special roll, with eel, crabstick, cucumber and avocado.
It was a good thing we met pretty early at 6, because by the time we left the place was absolutely packed, especially for a Sunday night. It lived up to the hype, though- the service was quick and the seafood was definitely good quality, which is the most important part of a sushi restaurant.
It was nice to catch up with Ada, too. The two of us have met up plenty of times before, but the last time we hung out was in April!
On another note, in this picture my hair is out of control long….thank God I have a haircut in a few weeks…
Raw fish: yay or nay? A few years ago I never would have touched it, but now I really love the stuff. Makes me wonder what other weird delicacies I’d like if I only tried them.
