For our first night in London, my dad and I were absolutely exhausted. Transatlantic overnight flights really take it out of you! So, this evening we set off in search of a traditional British pub for a satisfying yet simple meal. Our search took us on a looong walk straight through Sloane Square…

Until we reached Coopers Arms, a neighborhood pub in Chelsea.

Originally we’d wanted to sit in the bar area, but we were told upon arriving that it was “quiz” night and the tables would likely remain full all night. Fair enough! Instead, we were led upstairs to their quieter dining room, which offered the same menu of traditional English comfort food. Upon being seated, we ordered two pints of their house ale:

As soon as I glanced at the menu, I knew what I wanted: the mezze board, a platter overflowing with pita bread and tasty dippers.

Roasted peppers and artichokes,

Hummus,

Tzatziki,

Pesto bean dip,

Feta cubes,

Black and green olives,

And wonderfully soft pita bread to enjoy it all with!

I also got an order of their seasonal vegetables on the side. Still trying to get in those five a day, and these were soft and well-cooked without being overly buttery or mushy.

My dad went the more traditional English route by ordering the fish pie, a casserole of buttery, creamy mashed potatoes stuffed with haddock, salmon and prawns and served with the same seasonal vegetables I ordered as a side.

I had a few bites, and wow- whoever says British cuisine is no good must not like comfort food, because that’s exactly what this was!

I thought blogging while on vacation might be difficult, but I’m actually really enjoying it- it’s a nice way to keep a journal of the trip for my own future reference! Posting might be a bit more sporadic, but I’m going to try to keep up with it so I have something to look back on to remember this :)

Full day of sightseeing tomorrow- time to hit the pillow!

Have you ever had English food? What did you think of it?
