Sweet and Savory Sushi

This evening, I met fellow college blogger Ada for dinner at Soy and Sake, a vegetarian Japanese restaurant in the West Village. Ada is a native New Yorker who always seems to know of the best restaurants, bakeries and other foodie locations, so I was surprised she'd never heard of it before!

To start, we each had a bowl of miso soup. My favorite way to start a Japanese meal.

Though Soy and Sake has a huge variety on their menu, the two rolls I ordered the last time I was there really stood out in my mind. I debated trying something new, but ended up choosing what I knew I'd love!

Two gigantic rolls: first up, the veggie lover roll, which was stuffed with cucumber, avocado and asparagus, topped with mushroom tempura and vegan sauce.

And the Hawaii roll, filled with fresh banana, avocado, Korean pear, mango and mango sauce.

I loved that one was savory, while the other was sweet. I ate the veggie roll first, and the Hawaii roll as a "dessert" of sorts.

Meanwhile, Ada ordered the soy chicken bento box, which was a steal at $12. It came with a California roll, miso soup, dumplings, salad and edamame.

I sampled both the California roll and soy chicken, and both were pretty tasty. It would be a great thing to order for a cheap but filling lunch!

I've met up with Ada multiple times before, and it was great to catch up with her again. I feel like whenever I meet up with bloggers, we must sound so strange to the tables around us, talking about cameras, conferences, restaurants, favorite blogs and controversial posts. There was definitely some good conversation!

Time to go end this day with some homework. Enjoy your evening!

What's your favorite Japanese food? I think miso soup might actually top my list, though I'm beginning to love dried seaweed more and more.
