The Timekeeper

These Peanut Butter & Co. winnings are making my lunch-packing routine soooo much easier lately. I froze them all, so each night I just pop one in the fridge to thaw overnight, then grab it in the morning and go. Maybe I should start making and freezing my own sandwiches in bulk?

Today's sandwich of choice was White Chocolate Wonderful, featuring WCW peanut butter, orange marmalade and slivered almonds.

On the side, I had an apple and a Clif Z-Bar, which I actually broke out as a midmorning snack during my first class.

I haven't lived in New York very long at all, but I have to say that I've encountered more "characters" in my brief time here then in the rest of my life combined. There's always some random person yelling something, selling something, stealing something, asking for something, running for something, jumping from something...you get my drift.

There's one "character" I see every day on my way to class: the unofficial NYU "crossing guard," who stands on the corner of Washington Square Park East and Washington Place, yelling out the time until the next class and directing traffic. I used to think he was just some crazy dude doing it for kicks, but I Googled him the other day and was really interested in what I found. If you have a little time, watch this- I promise it will make you smile.

My favorite part: "As long as you're happy, you don't worry about what people think, you don't worry about what people say. If you start worrying about what people say, or what people think, you gotta use your own mentality and come to your conclusion: as long as you're happy, you're satisfied, you're content, do what you want. No matter what anybody says."

Pretty deep, huh? Maybe he's not so crazy after all :)

Have you ever met a "character" and discovered that they're not who you thought they were? What's the craziest thing you've ever seen on a city street?
