Otto

Spontaneity was the name of the game last night.

Normally the most exciting thing I do on a Wednesday night is watch Laguna Beach reruns and eat a pint of blood orange sorbet, so when Gracie asked me yesterday afternoon if I'd be up for happy hour and dinner with her and her friend Erica, I couldn't say no!

After taking advantage of a few drink specials, we headed to Otto, a Mario Batali Italian restaurant on the bottom floor of the iconic One Fifth Avenue building.

Though the pasta dishes came highly recommended by Erica, I was in more of a pizza mood and opted for the Marinara, with tomato, garlic and chiles. (Excuse the poor photo quality!)

The chile pepper topping was a genius idea, and really made the pizza sauce stand out. It was one of the better authentic Italian pizzas I've had, although the crust wasn't quite as perfect as you can find if you really search. Regardless, I polished off the whole thing ;)

Since all of our dishes were so good, we had to make sure dessert was up to par as well!

The three of us split two desserts. Black & White: milk chocolate chip gelato, hazelnut croccante, creme fraiche gelato, chocolate sauce and caramel crema.

Coffee, dark chocolate and milk chocolate chip gelato.

Though we misread the menu and were a bit confused when miLK chip gelato came out instead of miNT, these things don't matter much when you're eating gelato. I usually go for gooey cakes or mousse instead of ice cream, but this stuff was good- definitely a tasty reintroduction to some dairy after vegan month. My two hot dates agreed:

After dinner, we went out in the Village, where learning of the jitterbug and dancing to old-school hip hop ensued. It was a fun girls' night!

I just should have washed my hair yesterday morning...
Though I don't have classes on Thursdays, my plan for today is to be as productive as possible to better enjoy the weekend ahead. Catch you all later!
