I'm sure that many non-meat eaters can relate to the constant "protein" question. While meat is undoubtedly the most widely known protein source, there are tons of plant-based alternatives out there!
Alternatives like grain and vegetable protein, which I had in a simple shake this morning after spin class:
- 1 c almond milk
- 1 Vega Health Optimizer packet (13 g protein)
- 2 T ground flax meal
Or quinoa, which made an appearance for lunch:
| Credit to Elise for coming up with the quinoa + nut butter idea! |
| All mixed up |
And served with some red grapes (not much protein there, but fruit has its benefits too).
I'm a firm believer that if you eat what you crave and strive to incorporate a wide variety of foods, you'll get enough of nearly every essential nutrient, vitamin and mineral. There are days when I'm a carb queen, and days when I eat an entire block of tofu in one sitting...it all balanced out!
What's your favorite source of non-meat protein?
