We had whole-wheat spaghetti with a spicy fra diavolo tempeh sauce:
Alongside roasted rutabaga & brussels sprouts and steamed green beans.
Everything was delicious, but the real piece de resistance was the devil's food cake with homemade peanut butter frosting.
Holy yum. I know my frosting, and this was good stuff.
Mike's family was also very generous to give me a few amazing Christmas gifts, including chocolate peanut butter and an immersion blender. I'm so excited to use it- anyone have a must-try blended soup recipe?
Though I wasn't even hungry, I snacked on a small piece of pumpkin pecan brownie pie when I got home. Crazy dreams ensued. Note to self: stop the sugar a few hours before bedtime, or spend all night thinking that you're on a 36 hour airplane flight to Santa Monica with your entire extended family.

I just ate my cereal breakfast:
And am now ready to start the day. My best friend got home from Spain last night and I can't wait to see her today (hiiiiii Mags)!
Have you ever noticed that certain foods besides caffeine affect your sleeping patterns? Do you usually remember your dreams?

Ice cream ususally gives me weird dreams. I lay off of it before bedtime!
I've never noticed food giving me weird dreams- that's strange! I bet that cake and pie were SO worth any dreams though =P
Fra diavolo tempeh sounds amaaaaazing!
Foods totally give me strange dreams! I normally have the weirdest dreams if I ate pizza and ice cream, no joke.
Ohhh man I want that tempeh sauce!
it's a full moon in 2 days and tonite there is a lunar eclipse and so THAT is why you cant sleep, too. trust me, nature is conspiring against sleep patterns right now

Anyway tho i am glad you dont regret yours...i want great pics and know i need to up my camera game :)
I just pulled up TWO posts featuring fra diavolo sauce! I might just have to make this tonight!
I want that diavolo sauce! The PB frosting doesn't sound too shabby either!
"Note to self: stop the sugar a few hours before bedtime, or spend all night thinking that you're on a 36 hour airplane flight to Santa Monica with your entire extended family." <---- LOL. that is all :D
What a delicious birthday dinner + cake. Yum! I remember my dreams fairly often. I always wake up and tell Billy about them right away, otherwise I'll forget them. Hilarious about your 36 hour flight dream - actually makes me totally claustrophobic to think about being stuck on a plane for that long! Haha.
Boyfriend's mom is a good vegan chef?! That's so awesome- think of the other end of the spectrum and you are a lucky girl.
I have crazy dreams- I fly and stuff. Sometimes I wish I lived in my dreams.
Hmmm I've noticed that chocolate makes me anxious.
But I think I'm going to buy myself a mini-immersion blender for Christmas. It'll help blend my protein shakes and teas in the sorority house.
I go through periods where I remember dreams, and periods where I don't. That's not a dream you had- that's a nightmare! :)
Wow Mike's parents are generous! An immersion blender?! Lucky you! :)
I never really dream...kinda boring like that! :P
wow tempeh tomato sauce sounds unreal!! Vegan cooking is so creative thats what I love about it!
thats an awesome present! they know you so well :)
Happy 21 to Mike! So nice that you're close with his family, and enjoy that immersion blender! Saves so much time and clean-up.
i haven't really paid much attention to foods effecting my sleep, but I definitely have weird dreams sometimes that could have resulted from what I ate!.. I can usually remember my dreams within the first 30 minutes of waking up.. then they're longg goneee
love the blender! I like making green machines and instead of drinking, pour into a bowl, top with granola and you've got a breakfast soup-y thing...hahaha :)
Yes--lettuce. And almonds. Holy wow. Don't do it...:P
Mike's mom always cooks the best food!
Last year when I had trouble with insomnia, I swore that having garlic in my dinner helped me sleep. I'm not sure if I was just imagining it though. :P
Tempeh fra diavolo? Recipe please?
I always have to eat right before I go to bed or I can't sleep. Without a big snack, I am up all night! I work out first thing in the AM, so this actually really helps.
I don't know how legit it is, but my mother always told me cheese would give me nightmares! I don't eat too much cheese and almost never before bed, so I don't know, but that's what I grew up believing! (I think that may have been an evil ploy to avoid late-night requests for grilled cheese or nachos ;)
girrrrl you scored BIG TIME with mike's mom being such an amazing vegan cook! scratch that mike scored big time being surrounded by TWO vegan chefs haha. you and his mama should go into the vegan baked goods biz together!!
I only remember my dreams if I wake up and go back to sleep again (especially in the morning!)
