No words.
I'm already dying to see part two!! For all you HP fans out there, just go see it this weekend. So worth any crazy crowds or packed theaters you may encounter!
I must say that I feel like the last movie will be the end of an era. I started reading Harry Potter the summer before I went into third grade- over than twelve years ago. Everyone read them. It was mania. Yet when I recently babysat for an eight-year-old, I was amazed to find out that she had no idea who Harry Potter even was. I hope the books will become classics in the same way as The Chronicles of Narnia, but even if they don’t, I definitely plan to read them to my own children one day. They were just too big a part of my childhood to ever forget!
In lieu of spending mucho dinero on snacks at the theater, I brought an easily portable lunch with me:
PB&Co. Dark Chocolate Dreams on whole-wheat, a Braeburn apple and pecan halves.
Post-movie, I dried my tears (yes, I bawled) and decided to distract myself with a trip to Trader Joe’s. I picked up tons of produce, plus a few “fun” items like pumpkin butter and peanut flour. My afternoon snack featured their tomato-basil hummus, which I think tastes like pizza sauce.
Butter lettuce, tomato, cucumber, salt, lots of pepper, hummus and a Flatout wrap.
My sweet tooth is kicking…time to go take another dip in the dark chocolate dreams jar!
What movies or books do you identify with your childhood? Will you introduce them to your own children?
Do you pay for snacks at the theater, sneak your own, or go without? I know that it’s not allowed for me to bring my own food, but movie theaters offer absolutely no healthy options. Though the prices are always ridiculous, I’d actually pay for food anyway if they offered anything I’d like to eat!

Neverending Story, My Girl.. :) I can't wait to see HP7, but I'm going to wait a LITTLE bit.
I usually just go without snacks. If I know I'm feeling snacky, I'll bring in some in my bag. That's what those big hobo bags are for, right?
And sometimes I'll indulge in a movie theater item... but hardly ever.
I saw HP7 last night too! I thought they did a great job of staying true to the book, but was a little surprised (good suprise) by their ending choice.
Is it summer yet?!?! I am ready for Part 2 too!
I am so glad you like it!! I loved the books growing up and I can't wait to see this one! I sneak in treats.. oops.
I love trader joe's tomato basil hummus!
God I have ALWAYS WONDERED about this. WHY can't they offer decent snacks at the movie theatre? I would pay, I would pay more than the already over-OVER-expensive candy they sell now. I feel like they could earn even more by just selling a few little healthy items and charging an arm and a leg for them. At least we would have the option... But alas we have to make our own food for free and sneak it in. :) Which I do ALWAYS. And water. But then I inevitably have to get up from the movie at least once... fortunately I usually get an aisle seat!!!
For some reason, I never got into the Harry Potter books - probably because if you were in 3rd grade, I was probably in HIGH SCHOOL! Eeek. :)
But I will say that I love the Chronicles of Narnia.
I hands down, always take my own food to the movie theater. It's movie night tradition to stop at Whole Foods on the way to the theater.
I love the movies Swiss Family Robinson (weird, I know) and the REAL peter pan. Favorite movies of all time.
Glad you loved it!
Sadly, I never got into the whole Harry Potter series. But I'm thinking I will have to especially when a friend of mine read both Twilight and HP and she said HP was much better! Hopefully I have at least one girl because the Disney Princess movies will definitely be shown in my house. Big part of my childhood and they just don't make Disney movies the same. I plan to keep all of my Twilight Books and pass those down.
I sneak my own snacks in! I cant wait to see Part 1!
Oh my gosh! I can't WAIT to see it! I also fully intending on starting over with book one, once the movies have been finished!
I bawled when I read the last book! Not only because of the contents, but because I was SO sad my favorite series was coming to an end!
My son is planning on starting them soon! So it will be fun to watch him discover how great the books are! :)
My friend worked at a movie theater and subsequently warned me never to buy movie theater popcorn...apparently the replenishment is not the most...clean...process. I prefer to bring my own goodies! Although admittedly it's hard to resist those chocolate snow caps in the candy counter...
aaah can't wait! i always bring my own snacks just in case but i think i'm pretty used to not eating while i watch movies now. i WILL be bringing some kleenex now though!
I have never read a word of Harry Potter, but I do bring snacks with me. Either my own candy/chocolate for a night movie or a snack for afternoon one. I am the one with a crunch apple in the theater too!
I NEVER buy anything at the movies. I won't even buy water because it is like 9 dollars.
Funny story... Back in high school, me and my friend Justin would always bring Burger King in the movies. We always pissed off some people with the smell ;)
Ahh I'm SO excited to see HP7!!! I feel like my childhood/early teens totally revolved around HP too.
I never buy anything at the movies either. My friends and I like to stock up on stuff from the bulk bins at a grocery store beforehand!
I'm in my mid-thirties and always had the misconception that the HP books are for kids. It wasn't until a year ago that one of my friends convinced me to read them. I bought and read them all and bought and watched all the movies (for the first time). When I finished book 7, I was so sad. I want them to go on and on and on. I can't wait to watch the movie, but will wait a little while.
i ALWAYS take my own meals and snacks to the movie theatre.. everything is SO over priced! my friends always give me weird looks.. but hey! who's the one saving money and empty calories!?
I just saw Harry Potter 7 with a friend, we went to Trader Joe's before to get our snacks. :) We would agree with the whole "ending of an era" feeling too. :(
omg isn't that hummus awesome!!! i love it on...EVERYTHING!
and i have not and will not see HP7...i haven't seen any of the movies and never will. i used to read the books ,but after it all became such a fad, i had to step away.
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
HP7!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BEST THING EVER!!!!!!!!! I will deff be reading the books to my kids, also :) Is that chocolate pb good? Ive seen it in stores but never tried it :) GOTTA try that hummus though!! ;)
