Bougie Soixante-Dix-Neuf

Tonight, I went to Candle 79 yet again, this time for a blogger meetup. I’m a lucky, lucky girl for getting to go to my favorite restaurant so often!

We were supposed to have a larger group, but the pouring rain caused several last-minute cancellations. It ended up being just me, Cynthia and Andrea.

The three of us hung out at the bar for a bit before being seated. I stuck with sparkling water, but Andrea ordered my favorite Candle cocktail- the French 79. Oh la la!

Get a few bloggers together, and they’ll be laughing within minutes…

Once seated, we were presented with a fruit salad amuse-bouche.

On a silver spoon, no less ;) Our table also shared the guacamole timbale appetizer.

chipotle black beans, caramelized onions, cucumber-tomato salsa, tortilla chips, ranchero sauce
I’ve never ordered the same entree twice at this restaurant, and tonight was no exception. After weighing my options, I finally settled on the chipotle-ginger glazed tempeh.

grilled seasonal vegetables, sauteed spinach, grilled peach salad
Delicious. Divine. Delightful. I wish there was a whole vegan vocabulary to describe how good this was!

Meanwhile, Andrea ordered the Moroccan spiced chickpea cake.

seasonal vegetables, red pepper-coconut curry, fresh apricot chutney, toasted almonds
And Cynthia rolled with the summer harvest paella.

valencia rice, seasonal vegetables, smoked seitan sausage, saffron-red pepper sauce
Though I cleaned my plate, I still had room left for dessert. Chocolate peanut butter bliss, to be exact.

Bliss it was. I’ve ordered this several times, and it remains one of the best desserts I’ve ever had, vegan or otherwise.

The other two desserts looked scrumptious as well.

Cynthia with her live peach parfait

Andrea's cannolis
All in all, yet another fabulous meal. I swear, I could eat at this place every night and never tire of it. Reason enough to hone my own vegan culinary skills!

Time to go write a paper- eek, procrastinate much? Have a great night!

Do you tend to order the same tried-and-true dish when you go to restaurants, or do you dare to switch it up?

Just for kicks: favorite synonym for the word “delicious.”

Amazing. Candle 79 never fails to impress.

I'd say that when I return to a restaurant, I usually WANT to order the same thing that wowed me enough to come back in the first place, but I usually force myself to try something else. I just make my dining companion order the original. ;)

I spent the summer in the city and never got to 79. Candle Cafe was delightful though.

And scrumptious is the most ridiculous word ever. I love it.

Hmm favorite synonym.. delectable?
The food looks so perfect. What have I been doing with my life by not going there?
I always switch up my dishes when going to restaurants. But I'm not gonna lie, I do get pretty sad if it doesn't taste as good as I'd hoped.
Good luck with your paper. I'm a huge procrastinator as well :)

I love switching it up! I used to never get the same drink twice at Starbucks, but I think I've been there too much and tried almost every combo ;)

Chipotle ginger glazed tempeh sounds AWESOME. Everything sounds awesome. I want to go the Candle SO badly! I try to order different things when I make repeat visits, but sometimes I'll find a favorite and stick with that because I know it's good.

I'm so jealous of your fabulous food- I might have to make a pit stop there when I come into town for a business trip in late October. Will you be around?

I loved tonight! Blogger meetups always result in the best food. I was trying to explain the awesomeness of this food to Hunni and all I could say was "you would never know it was vegan" and "I could eat it without getting sick." Two of the best compliments I can give and the company was FREAKING FANTASTIC! That also will be my synonym. Now off to bed :-)

Favorite synonym for delicious: amazing! And yep, that all looks amazing!

One of my favourite television chefs often describes flavours as being 'gorgeous' and I love that so much!

I usually order the same thing when I go out. It is kind of boring for everyone else, but if it didn't taste so 'gorgeous' then I wouldn't be ordering it, right? :)

I tend to order the same thing at my favourite restaurants a lot. I'm trying to change and be more adventurous though!

But if I had Candle 79 here, I would definitely order something different every time because everything looks so good!

I usually do order the same thing when I go to restaurants. I always crave what I got the previous time so I sometimes find it hard to order something else. I'm really impressed that you've never ordered the same thing twice! I wish I could be more like that!
