Several of you guessed right! I finally took the plunge…
I've been contemplating this purchase for several months, and I couldn't be happier! I think my mom might shoot me if I show her one more picture of food accompanied by the words “Isn’t it pretty?”
In honor of my new toy, I made a special breakfast that I new would be fun to photograph:
3 T chia seeds, ¼ c Vega shake and go chocolate smoothie mix and ¾ c almond milk
Topped with a banana and a whopping spoonful of Skippy natural peanut butter.
Because bananas are best eaten with peanut butter and chocolate.
Later, I baked a batch of chocolate-goji Super Charge Me cookies as a thank-you gift for the women I shadowed at the hospital earlier this summer.
My parents now call these “Gabriela cookies” because I make them so often!
Of course, I sampled one fresh from the oven. Quality control :)
I had a very early lunch that included my favorite vegetable as of late: an avocado!
Mashed with a tomato, lime juice, salt & pepper and a spoonful of salsa.
Along with the last Flatout tortilla (These aren’t that good, so I’m glad they’re done!)
Plus a pink lady and another cookie for dessert.
Off to do some errands…have a great afternoon loves!
Bloggers: what's your best tip for foodie photography?
Do you have a “signature” dish?

I just got a Nikon DSLR. You pictures look great already!
Yayy! What wonderful pictures the rebel produces- wow! I have a Canon powershot- nothing special, but I'm not that avid of a photographer.
Good to know about the flatouts- maybe I'll skip them since they aren't that great.
My signature dish? Perhaps my pancakes, I play with them A LOT and always come up with wacky new ones for my family by mixing and matching various ingredients.
I have the Canon t1i!!!! BEST purchase ever. LOVE your pics of all the pb.... and chocolate.... and pb... haha :) you're going to fall in loooooove
:) COngrats on the new purchase! I'll be expecting a lot of food pictures from you now. :P
I'm still working on finding a signature dish.
Haha, you're a model vegan in this post! chia pudding, peanut butter, avocado, the supercharge me cookies...love it!
Hmmmm my signature dish would be my Epic Green Monsters on my blog - i love them!
have a good day :) xx
Congrats on the new camera! Very exciting. We're hoping to upgrade ours before we head to Europe next month and I'm looking forward to a new toy.
Yay congrats on getting the rebel! Your pictures look awesome! I debated getting one too but I decided I would probably break it haha. One day...
Congrats, Lady!!! I remember the day I finally got to hold my very own DSLR in my hot little hands. Your photos are looking fabulous.
Your mom she got herself into :) Oh and T1i!!!
Hooray for a new camera! I'm pretty well known for my chicken marsala or teriyaki stir fry.
I have a lot of signature dishes at my home, but it's probably either the chicken curry and tandoori or my spicy chicken burgers. Haha or the roasted vegetables or the sweet potato fries! Oh jeez. Can't decide which one is my signature.
i think my signature dish is dressed up popcorn. or decked out fro yo. no lie.
or stir fry.
hmm, i just dont know!!
have fun with the new toy, lovely ladyy
WOOHOO! excited for you and your new toy :)
oooo i am so jealous of the new camera! i've been dying to get one! perhaps for christmas....
I'm still learning a lot about photography, but I've found that the single biggest factor that improves photos by approx 80 billion percent is natural lighting. Adjusting the white balance just doesn't cut it, really. Enjoy the toy though!!!
A new camera!! How exciting, your pictures are gorgeous! The thing that makes the most difference in my photos is GOOD LIGHTING. I just have a point and shoot, but I think my pictures turn out well if I have good, natural light. :-)
welcome to the rebel club! isn't it so exciting?! I still have yet to really master the different settings on mine, but the number one recommendation for food photography I have is to never use a flash. that burst of light won't do anything to make a fabulous meal look appetizing.
I can't wait to see what you and your new baby can do!
Google what all ISO, aperture, shutter speed, and exposure mean and how to change them on the camera. Understanding the concepts helps manipulate things so much. It takes a bit to reach the "aha it makes sense" moment, but its worth it.
Check into how to change the manual white balance with a white piece of paper. It has saved me from many yellowy shots that I have to take indoors.
Otherwise, just mess around with it and you'll pick things up. So much fun!
my iphone camera suddenly feels horribly inadequate...
congrats though! everything looks absolutely gorgeous, that must be one hell of a camera!
let me know how you like the new camera--im in the market myself (the 1 i use now is my roommates).
Congratulations on your new camera!!! The pictures look mouth watering <3 I love eating avocados, so I love how delish and quick your recipe looks on here.
That pudding looks to die for too, I need to get my hands on some of that vega protein.
I'm afraid I don't have any tips for you - I just take about six billion pictures and pick my favorites. I've noticed that I'm getting better at composing shots, though! I guess that just comes with practice.
xo!
Beautiful pictures!!! You're going to LOVE your new camera!
so awesome that you got a new camera! youre gonna love it... the pictures already look awesome! i love the canon rebel series.
best tip for foodie photography: use natural light whenever possible! and be creative with arrangements (when possible!)
signature dish... almond butter banana sandwiches. does that count? haha. that or kabocha squash with miso tahini dressing.
Good call on the camera!
My photo tip: Mess with the aperture to change depth of field. Shallow DOF means that just the stuff in the foreground, or just the thing you're focusing on, is in focus and everything else is blurry. Deep DOF means that everything, or mostly everything, is in focus. A lower F number (2.8, for instance) will provide a shallower depth of field, while a higher F number (10, for instance) will provide a deep depth of field.
And remember that aperture, which is how big the hole is that lets in light, is measured in F numbers that go kind of funny. A low F number means a big hole letting in a lot of light, and a high F number means a small hole letting in a smaller amount of light. Adjust your ISO (sensitivity to light) and shutter speed accordingly to expose the photo properly.
Also, pick up a photographer boyfriend to teach you stuff! That's what I did :P
YAY!!!!!! New camera is awesome!!!!!! I am loving it!! I really need a new camera too but am lost in that department, I dont know which kind, I know I want a canon but there are SO MANY model types!!!!!!!!!! My head was spinning when I was looking online last week!!! Yours looks great! Any info you have, this diva appreciates!
Love you beautiful!!
Congrats on the camera! Your pictures with it look so good already! I'm hoping to get a DSLR for Christmas. I'm getting so annoyed with the limitations of a point-and-shoot. :P
Hmm, I think my signature dish would be my yogurt mess breakfasts!
Yay new cam! Very exciting. Looks like most people have made the suggestions I would. But my signature dish: a big hummus-y salad. And apples.
Congrats on the new camera!! I need one so bad, do you really like the Canon Rebel???
Signature dish?? Not sure, it varies haha. I know lame answer, but I would say some type of raw dessert, haha
