Being underage paid off when I woke up at 5:40 this morning for a three-mile run with a goup that included Freya and Angela. Everything’s better sans hangover.
(I didn’t bring a camera, so I swiped these from Angela- hope she doesn’t mind!)
The morning sun shining across the river was absolutely breathtaking. Freya and I completed about 3.5 miles together- running is such a wonderful way to explore a new city.
By the time breakfast began at 8, I was starvin’ marvin. Confession: I was numero uno in line for the buffet. Hey, someone has to be first! The spread included fresh fruit, Arnold bagel thins, Quaker oatmeal, and assorted muffins and croissants.
Packed oatmeal station- oh, bloggers and their oats!
I opted for a bowl of Quaker banana walnut instant oatmeal topped with raspberries and blackberries:
The oatmeal was delicious- full of walnut chunks with a true banana flavor.
I loaded rest of my plate with pineapple, honeydew, strawberries, a bagel thin and an Adora chocolate calcium disk. I went back for more fruit and had three more chocolates as well J
Following breakfast, it was time for the sessions to begin!
Molly and me!
First up was a speech by Christine Palumbo, an RD who did a great job of explaining the dangers of fad diets. Instead, she advocated a diet of whole foods, coupled with plenty of exercise- the blogger way of life!
Their lecture was incredibly informative and thought provoking. In addition to covering topics like pre-workout fuel and metabolic efficiency training, Rebecca reminded us of our influence as bloggers, and encouraged us to promote a healthy mentality, not a “skinny” one.
The Quaker-sponsored snack break came just in time for my rumbly tummy! We helped ourselves to an assortment of whole fruit and Chewy bars.
I chose a bosc pear, and picked up two new Chewybars to try later.
The macaroon queen also bestowed a bag of her famous macaroons on me. I couldn’t wait to dig in!
Gina's is actually the first blog I ever read!
'roons!
I sampled a coconut one:
FOODGASM!! Gina could make some serious bank selling these things…she’s such a sweetheart to share them J
Sabrina’s healthy entertaining session was up next. I had to support my fellow Philadelphian!
Her presentation focused on ways to make your guests feel comfortable and welcomed while serving healthy and delicious meals. Sabrina offered great tips on menu planning, themes and décor. She was super passionate and knowledgeable about her subject!
Stay tuned for lunch and the afternoon sessions!
PS- I plan on doing posts explaining all of the sessions in further depth and giving my own thoughts on them...they're all too interesting to recap in just a few sentences!
