Hello friends! I’ve just returned home from yet another fabulous weekend in the city, which I cannot wait to return to for good in just a few weeks…
Beautiful.
Friday evening I had a delicious dinner date with the lovely Ilana of Happy Healthy Hottie. We met up in the “Curry Hill” neighborhood of Manhattan, dubbed for its plethora of Indian restaurants. After debating restaurants, we finally settled on a hole in the wall place and ordered a feast.
Chapati. I thought I had an obsession with naan, but this chewy crepe-like flatbread has stolen my heart.
Vegetable Vindaloo. Super spicy = super yummy.
Baigan bharta, my all-time favorite Indian dish.
Necessary carb representation.
Once we were satisfied with our Indian food babies, we decided to take the gabfest across town to Cocoa V, the Blossom-owned chocolate and wine bar I visited with Mike last weekend. We shared the chocolate sampler for two.
Clockwise from top left hand corner: chocolate-covered edamame cluster, passionfruit bon bon, almond butter truffle, raspberry bon bon, hazelnut truffle (our favorite), Earl Grey bon bon, jasmine and caramel bon bon, dark chocolate truffle and sesame toffee. All vegan. Words cannot describe how amazing this was. The irony was that this plate alone cost more than our entire meal at the Indian restaurant…whatever, it was worth it.
Stuffed to capacity, we walked over to Mike’s apartment to meet up with a few of his friends before heading out for the night. The group ended up at a dive bar in Chelsea, where we stayed until about 3 am. Normally I’m ready for bed by about midnight, but I rallied as a result of the warm weather and good company and ended up having a great time. I love that Ilana and I can hang out so easily in the city, she’s so much fun!
By the way, anyone want a smootie?
I managed to sleep in until 10:30 the next day, which is unheard of in Gabriela land. I spent the rest of the day going for a quick run through Soho, doing errands and organizing the apartment. I had a tofu and veggie roll, some pineapple and liquid chemicals for lunch at some point:
And Mike and I hit up Whole Foods for dinner. This salad beast contained spinach, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, red peppers, sundried tomatoes, artichoke hearts, balsamic tofu, strawberry salad slaw, zucchini, yellow squash, onions and oil and vinegar.
We also split a huge hunk of cornbread, a bar of WF coconut dark chocolate and a vegan chocolate chip cookie. Go big or go home. Worth it.
A bit later, we headed up to the Bronx for the night. This little lady was definitely the highlight of my evening:
Scout. Half Chihuahua, half Dachshund. All love. She actually looks terrified in this pic…there might be such a thing as too much cuddling for such a tiny dog.
I went off picture patrol for most of the night, but it was another fabulous one. I may have eaten an entire basket of curly fries on my own at 2 am…so worth it though. Don’t judge me J
Despite going to bed at 3 again, I was up and at ‘em by 7 to welcome Dabenz and Giuditta with my furniture! For the record, climbing three flights of stairs carrying boxes for an hour is the best workout I’ve had in awhile.
Hi Dabenz!
Giuditta and my kitchen!
No bed yet!
Once everything was put together, the finished product was definitely worth the sweat. I love this place.
All the moving definitely worked up an appetite, so my parents, Mike and I headed to Spring Street Natural for brunch. It’s definitely one of my favorite NYC restaurants- I love that there are healthy, natural and delicious options for vegans and omnivores, making it a great place to take a group of people with lots of differing dietary preferences.
I started off with a slice each of tomato and oat loaf, plus a carrot juice:
I chose the Asian salad for my entrée: boston, romaine and iceberg lettuce, fresh pineapple, toasted almonds and cashews, crispy noodles, julienne carrots, jicama, fresh mango and spring onions in a spicy toasted sesame-miso dressing.
For dessert, my mom and I split the panna cotta. I wasn’t a fan of the creamy base, but I devoured the homemade whipped cream and strawberries! I also helped Mike polish off his raspberry sorbet- to die for! Definitely worth the stuffed feeling on the car ride home.
The only downside to this fabulous weekend was that my phone crapped out on me last night- the entire keyboard randomly stopped working. I took it to Verizon as soon as I got home and thankfully my insurance plan covers a new one, but it won’t arrive until Tuesday. While being phoneless is a hassle, I’m kind of enjoying the fact that I can’t be reached…it’s nice not to feel your phone constantly vibrating!
I hope you all had a fantastic weekend too! Have a great Monday, everyone!
What did you eat/do this weekend that was a little out of your comfort zone but totally worth it?
What’s your favorite kind of truffle?

ah glad you had a good weekend! SO jealous! The chicken fingers I ate at midnight last night were out of my comfort zone but so incredibly needed lol
The place looks so awesome!
I love the brick walls in your bedroom. Defintely worth the sweat.
1/ This weekend , I ran for 1.5 mile ( i know nothing crazy but i do not run ) and walked the other 1.5 on my dog's walk today. Out of my comfort zone because I am not one for that kind of a workout.
2/Probbaly dark chocolate
Looks like a great weekend! I also love the brick walls in the bedroom; it gives it such a "city" vibe!
And oh goodness, everything I ate this weekend was out of my comfort zone and oh so worth it! It was not the healthiest weekend ever, but you only live once and sometimes you just have to make not so good eating decisions. I actually ate at Taco Bell (I don't like fast food) because my boyfriend has been begging me to go. He was happy and I'm still alive, so all is well. :)

I'm sure that hazelnut truffle was to die for, but I'm curious about the Earl Grey one since it's my favorite tea.
I cannot handle how cute your apartment is, ahhh!!! I'm inviting myself up to visit, if that's cool :P
Today I spent SO much time swimming in the ocean. It left me tired and with a headache/ear ache, but it was entirely worth it :)

Glad you had a great weekend!!
I love how, despite the fact that I have now lived here for three years, I am always hearing about new restaurants, cafes, food brands, etc. New York is the best for foodies! I think your chocolate platter looks kind of amazing.
This weekend I made my own pesto! Hope you have a great week my love!
I love the brick in your apartment! Gorgeous. Do you have rommates or do you get all that loveliness to yourself? Sounds like a wonderful summer weekend in the city!

Your apt. is amazing!!!!!! Please thank your lucky stars that you have something so amazing and say a prayer that you have been so blessed. When I was 16 I left home with a garbage bag and the clothes on my back and what I could fit in my 2 door hatchback. Times.were.tough. I won't even tell you how hard it was and I lived in some real roach motels. I am soooo happy for you!!!!!!!! Congrats!!!!!!!

Sounds like such a great weekend. I love going into NYC, and was able to go in twice last week. We hit up the Whole Foods salad bar for lunch too. So good.
I love truffles with hazelnuts.
omgoodness your apartment is SO sex and the city hehe! that is amazing! what good eatin' too! I NEED to try indian food, i had it when i was little on a family vacation, but we actually don't have many indian food restaurants in my area!! ONE DAY! haha
this weekend my mom and i had a dessert with salted pecan toffee( drool i know)+ molten chocolate cake+ coffee Ice cream. it was perfection.. definitely not every day (month?) i eat that but SOO worth it and shared with my fave person ever:)
This weekend sounds like it was a blast! And oh my gosh that dessert platter is to die for! My favourite kind of truffle is one with dark chocolate and coconut.
Your apartment is so pretty! I love the look of exposed brick like that.
I love your apartment!!!! And I also love your dress-- so colorful and summery! Sounds like a great weekend!
wow - your new place is GORGEOUS! you must be so excited to move in. I'm in the process of moving myself, but our apartment is on the second floor of a house in Squirrel Hill. Not nearly as exciting as a city apartment with exposed brick and stainless steel appliances.
Oh, I am so in LOVE with your apt! It is absolutely adorable...I love the exposed brick!
GORGEOUS apartment! Brooklyn? Manhattan? Love all the exposed brick. It makes me miss -- the TINIEST BIT -- my days of solo studio livin' down here in Philly. But my apartment wasn't as sweet as yours :)
I also adore Spring St. Natural...and it's in one of my favorite parts of the city! The apt is amazing! I can't believe you found such a clean modern looking (studio right?) apt!
I love truffles...most dark chocolate ones are good in my book!
Omigosh, girl! Your weekend looks amazing! It actually made me think of SATC while I was reading it ;) So much good food, and your place is absolutely gorgeous! Jealous!
This weekend, I had my first bowl of ice cream in years. Completely out of my comfort zone, but so totally worth it... I see many, many more bowls of ice cream in my future.
Daayum, your apartment is so amazing!!! The city is the best city in the world! Actually, I'm going there today. :)
So fun that you and Ilana had such good times and live so close!!
Favourite truffle.....white 'chocolate' and pistachios is always a nice combination! It is definitely rare for me to eat out of my comfort zone, and even more so now that I am letting myself relax a little as far as my 'zone' goes. :)
The apartment is not only adorable-but it looks massive! I love the exposed brick and the mod-style bathroom.
You and Ilana look so cute! I love love love hole-in-the-wall Indian restaurants in New York City. I get a lot of good hole-in-the-wall ethnic in D.C., but for Indian you gotta hit up New York!
I actually don't like truffles! Their texture bugs me! I melt them and make brownies :D
You and Llana look so pretty! Those chocolates look amazing! Your apartment looks so nice too! Wow!
awwww you guys look GORGEOUS! i've ALWAYS wanted to go to spring st natural :) so we definitely need a meetup when you come back and grab some grub there! missy should come toooo!
glad you had such a fun weekend! it was gorgeous out. perfect smootie weather ;)
This seriously looks like the best weekend ever! That chocolate sampler plate looks to dieee for. I like anything with pralines or dark chocolate! I need to work on eating out of my comfort zone more. And the new digs look FAB!
Wow your apartment is gorgeous!! I can't wait to see everything finished.
Your chocolate sampler plate looks phenomenal - no worries, I would have paid for it too. ;)
I don't know if I ate anything out of my comfort zone this weekend...but I did eat oysters a few weeks ago which was WAY out of my zone...and they're going to stay way out there! Eek!
It all looks so fun and yummy :D
exposed brick is my favorite, i had it in my downtown place before our new house and loved it... ahhhh to live in nyc, you are so lucky girl! glad you had a nice weekend too! :D
LOVE your apartment girl!!!
WOW! Your place looks absolutely amazing. I can't help but think the world is at your fingertips. Enjoy it all!
