Bonsoir mes belles! I hope you’ve all had a lovely Tuesday…I just got back a bit ago from dinner at Peacefood Café with Ada from NYCollegEats, which was super fun! Let me start at the beginning, though J
I woke up early for a workout and had a slice of French Meadow Bakery Women’s bread with sunflower seed butter as I headed out the door. Today was a strength day, so after 30 easy minutes on the elliptical I did 3 reps of 12 on every machine on the training circuit. I love that my gym has a circuit set up to work all your muscle groups, because otherwise I wouldn’t know where to begin! Strength training machines can definitely be intimidating!
Breakfast was a bowl of Kashi GoLean with a sliced banana, cinnamon and almond milk:
And lunch between classes was a veggie medley garden burger on a whole-wheat Roll-Up wrap with hummus, nooch, and lettuce, eaten with a Gala apple:
I made a quick jaunt to the post office and health food store to replenish my cereal stash. Of course, I had to break into my new box for dessert as soon as I got home! I went with Nature’s Path GF Mesa Sunrise, which I know is the birthday girl’s favorite (happy birthday, Lizzy!):
With thawed frozen strawberries and almond milk
I spent the afternoon doing homework and stressing about registering, then attempted to actually register. I say “attempt” because my transfer credits from my old college still aren’t in the system as prerequisites, meaning I’m barred from higher-level classes! I sent an email to my advisor, who told me that it would “have to wait until tomorrow.” Oy.
Snackage included another apple and Pecan Pie Larabar:
At 6:30 I met Ada at the vegan Peacefood Cafe! I was so excited to meet up with her, and to try the café, since I’ve heard rave reviews of it all over the blogworld!Every item on the menu looked delicious, but I ended up going with the raw entrée:
“Walnut pate and seasonal julienne vegetables sushi roll, served with a jicama-carrot medley”
We also split an order of chickpea fries with house dipping sauce:
Soooo good. I don’t think I’ve ever had jicama before, and the walnut pate in the roll was delicious! The chickpea fries were also incredible- it tasted like spicy hummus in French fry form. Can you get any better than that?!
The star of the meal, though, was definitely the dessert. Ada and I deliberated for awhile by the dessert case before deciding to split two desserts: chocolate ganache cake and raw raspberry tart.
Oh. My. Gosh. I’d come back for the chocolate frosting alone!! These treats were amazing, and absolutely did NOT taste vegan…I’m all for healthy-tasting meals, but I can never give up my yummy desserts!
Ada and I spend nearly two hours chatting…she’s just as town to earth, smart and sweet as she seems on her blog! It was a great way to spend a Tuesday evening J
Well bloggies, I’ve got to get to work…unfortunately for me, I don’t think my professors will allow me to skip tonight’s reading on account of a vegan food baby. Enjoy your hump day!
What kind of equipment do you use for strength training? Free weights, machines, body weight, classes? I’m mostly a machine kinda girl, though I use my body weight for core work!
Have you ever tried vegan desserts? What did you think of them? Ada and I talked about how so many people hate “vegan” food, but have never experienced how delicious it can be!!

Yeay, you got to meet Ada! :) I've been meaning to try Peacefood Cafe for a while now because everyone has been raving about it... I love vegan desserts... I've tried many, both from Whole Foods and vegan restaurants!
Hm, I've tried vegan desserts. I thought they were good, but not as good as the "real" thing...plus, soooo expensive. But I guess they are meant to be occasional treats!
YALLL ARE SOO BEAUTIFUL! i am super jelous!! hey, a vegan food baby is better than most foood babies!!
i LOVE free weights actually!
never had vegan desserts..boo :( love you!
That menu looks so good! You know I checked it out straight away! How are you liking the strength days? Have a great night, girl!
"“Walnut pate and seasonal julienne vegetables sushi roll, served with a jicama-carrot medley”
hell yeah!!!!
jicama is nice, just peel and slice it, kinda a great neutral food to dip into things like hummus or nut butter too
raw vegan desserts. yeah, i've "Tried a few" LOL
I dont tell ppl i am vegan unless i know them very well. they freak out. so i ignore or just say plant based diet.
equipment, well for the past few weeks...free weights. lift heavy. feel like a man in the gym..haha!
I am all about body pump for strength training!
I like to make my own vegan desserts. There are some gems out there like babycakes, but usually the kind found at those asian fake meat vegan places are too sugary and not fresh for me.
Oh my... that chocolate cake looks amazing!!! I can't get enough chocolate lately lol I've had vegan carrot cake before and it was delicious!! But we don't have very many restaurants like that around here. Your dinner looks fabulous!!! I love how creative vegan food can be! It's actually more exciting that non-vegan food to me.
Registration.. blech. I am sorry to hear about your issues! I'm having trouble with the transfer credits at my new school too so I haven't been able to register yet for Fall. Fun times!
I just got into strength training with machines before being put on rest so even though I didn't have long with it, I LOVED it! I also have a set of weights at home that I would use.
Have a great Wednesday!
Love you!
Oh my word that CAKE!!! I'm always so impressed with vegan desserts. I can rarely tell the difference between vegan and a "normal" version. I would die for a slice of that chocolate piece right now. :-)
Your dinner & dessert both look awesome! I'm super jealous!
I think I might love gala apples just as much as you do! They've always been my favorites, along with honeycrisps. :)
My YMCA at home has the machine circuit which is perfect, my school gym has a bunch of weight machines, but they aren't set up circuit style. I usually do a combination of the machines, free weights, and body-weight exercises. Keeps things interesting!
Sorry I couldn't go tonight :( too much work.
That's so awesome that you got to have a bloggie meet-up; I wish someone lived close enough to me for a meet up :( I feel like I'm a lone blogger up here.
I love vegan desserts. If I didn't know they were vegan, sometimes it would honestly be hard to tell. You're definitely right that people judge them before giving them a try.
All of that food looks so good!
-I love jicama! You have reminded me to pick some up at the store next time I am there. :)
Everything looks soooo good! Chickpea fries?! I'm wondering how you even do that lol
I think people automatically write off vegan food as healthy (and therefore "gross") or they've tasted vegan food from people who don't know how to cook it! Of course it's delicious :D
what an awesome blog meet up!!! i'm jealous- those vegan desserts look soo delicious.
Pecan Pie Larabars are my favorite I think. So good. And yes, vegan desserts are fabulous! There are hits and misses of course, but all the hits are oh so good.
I've wanted to try Peacewood, your dinner and meetup look great!
I usually do strength training in combo w/ hot yoga but also do my own "circut." I wish my gym had a circut like yours, that's so convenient! I followed some of Gina's shape-up plan and that helped too, but she focused a lot on upper body and not as much on abs and core which is more what I try and do...
Anyway good luck with registering I know that can sometimes be a nightmare. I had credits > transfer too and it def helped when they finally came through! What college were you at before?
I'm a free weights kind of girl. I actually really like strength training. Makes me feel baller. ;)
I had a vegan chocolate chip cookie once and loved it! Those desserts look bomb, though!
Wow! It sounds like you had a busy day!!!
As far as strength training goes, I do a mix of free weights and machines. I like the machines, because I know for sure which areas are being targeted and that I'm using the correct form.
I've tried vegan cookies from EarthFare, and I love them! Yay for healthy desserts!!!
I wish I lived close enough to blogger friends to have a meet-up! I usually do free weights for training but feel like I get the most out of machines. They just look so intimidating to me though...it takes me forever to figure them out.
Fun meet-up!!! That restaurant looks amazing...especially the desserts! I agree-- most people think that vegan food is so limited, but it really isn't. Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World taught me that :-)
Free Weights.
Those cakes look delicious. Especially the chocolate
Hello love!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow those desserts look amazing as heck!!!!!!! I have never tried any vegan dessert that looked that amazing!! The sushi roll you got too looks so good!! What a fun blogger meetup!! U look so beautiful in the pic, as always, love pink on you girl!!!
The perfumes you love, I have heard of but never smelled, Im going to have to next time Im at the mall!! I know if you like them, they must smell damn good!!!
CocoPops, I know when I saw the name of them , I thought of the cereal too!! lol!! Love ya!!!!!
Oh no, the transfer credit stuff is so annoying...I switched universities three times (for health reasons) and transferring the credits was frustrating. Hang in there.
All your yummy vegan food looks amazing! And I'm so jealous of blog meetups every time I hear about them. I've tried the vegan cookies at a local vegan restaurant and they were amazing. My sister isn't a vegan but she is obsessed with them.
For my strength training I do a bunch of different things: free weights, the machines, a Jillian Michaels DVD, or a gravity class (those are awesome, have you tried them??)
Ah, my gym needs to have that circuit, haha. That would be serious help for me.
Yum, chickpea fries? That sounds heavenly. And how could you hate vegan food? It's absolutely delicious...not that I'm biased or anything...
Have a happy hump day!
YUUUUMMMMMM. I can't believe how badly I want your meal and dessert from Peacefood cafe! I thought the chickpea fries sounded delicious enough, but then the desserts just sent me into a grinning, happy oblivion! I love that chocolate cake- the frosting looks exceptionally creamy!
I tend to use free weights more often, but that's mainly because I'm not familiar with machines!
And I would love to try vegan desserts!!
Ooh I looove the Peacefood Cafe! The best vegan dessert I've ever had is hands-down the cheesecake at Hangawi in K-Town--they use coconut milk and silken tofu, I believe, and it's so rich!
You New Yorkers have the best restaurant selections ;) I love vegan desserts because sometimes the milk based ones bother my tums.
As for weights I try to mix it up and do free weights and machines. Depends on what I'm working I guess and how much I like or hate the exercise with the machine vs. free weight. Plus sometimes I can do heavier weights with machines. :)
xoxoxoxo
i just had jicama for the first time-- SOO good, i was definitely pleasantly surprised by the texture.
have a wonderful afternoon
HEY love!!
Thank you for the birthday wish yesterday!! what an AWESOME bloggy meet-up! I wanna come to the East Coast to meet up with you and Ada!!
I use so many different things when I exercise...medicine ball, resistance band, some machines, hand weights, body weight...hehe!
I hope you have a fabulous hump day!
~xoxo!
All of your food looks so good! I haven't tried any vegan desserts mainly because they are often really pricy.
I love to do strength stuff with free weights but also do a lot of things like plank/abs that I don't need anything special for.
love love love vegan desserts! i agree that there is a misconception that they are "gross, too healthy, etc" until people realize that vegan doesn't translate into taste-less-ness! my boyfriend = prime example, he tried my carrot/pear/raisin bread and loved it.. then i told him it was vegan and he made an "icky face" --- i mean really? but he admitted that he really liked it and prob wouldnt have eaten it if i told him first haha
aww what a fun bloggie get together!! I want to do one someday. Good call on the two dessets...looks like they were definitely worth it. ;)
I almost always use free weights or an exercise ball...the machines kind of intimidate me, haha.
Oh my God this chocolate dessert! I ve never tried vegan desserts.
I use machines mostly but some free weight as well. Although I prefer long distance walking than strength exercise.
So jealous of the blog union! I am with hersweetcheeks above.
I just try to not look dumb at the gym- videos definitely keep me in shape

Aww your meet up looks like it was so much fun! And the food - holy moly amazingness! That walnut pate thing looks so. dayum. good.
Good luck with your work hun! And don't stress too much about registration. It's always nuts, but I've found that things work themselves out in the end ; )
I have had some truly decadent vegan desserts in the past year or so. My meat-loving roommate once declared that vegan desserts are often way better than the animal-laden kind. I think it was vegan carrot cake that really won her over!
Hey girlie! I had SUCH a great time meeting you yesterday and it was so fun to chat and consume yummy vegan food:) I seriously cannot wait until our next meet-up! Have a great evening and don't study too hard;)
ah! I have been wanting to go up to Peacefood forever! Happy to hear it's so yum!
Ah! I have been wanting to get to Peacefood forever, happy to hear it's so yum!
why oh why did I read this post right before dinnertime? now all I can think of is chocolate cake!! nom nom nom.
Sounds like a lovely evening with great eats and beautiful company! Glad you enjoyed yourself, sweetheart. You deserve a fun night out!
lots of love mi amor <3
Actually I wrote to Kay's and they sent me samples! Definitely write to them!!
Huge yummm to the desserts!
yeahhhh peacefood :)
Boy that food looks good!!! I wish we had more of that type of restaurants here...
I like vegan desserts but I find them dangerous... I sort of associate vegan/organic with "it's made up of good stuff so there's calories?" LOL! I know it's not true but my brain always tries to trick me ;)
ps: thank you so much for your comment btw... I think you were spot on! I guess it all just got to me and your comment just brought me back to earth lol :)
