Hi pretty ladies! I hope you’ve all had a fantastic weekend! From all of your responses on my last post, it sounds like I’m not the only one who enjoys a night in every once in awhile…I feel like we should start throwing bloggie pajama parties J
Saturday morning I arose bright and early. I was stoked but nervous for my run at the same time! I fueled up with a LARGE bowl of cereal:
Kashi GoLean, frozen bloobs, almond milk, cinnamon, the usual
Not long after I laced up my Brooks, strapped on my Garmin and got out there! Since Wednesday’s weather was so gorgeous, I decided to run along the Hudson again. Unfortunately, I neglected to realize that it was a) thirty degrees colder than the other day and b) insanely windy. Knowing that race day might bring less than ideal conditions, I kept going anyway. The wind definitely messed with my time, and I lost my favorite stretchy headband to mother nature in the wind tunnel that was Battery Park, but happily finished in a little over two hours. Whew! I chowed this smooshed and warmed sports-bra transported treat around mile 7 (kind of gross, I know):
When I finally got home, I was HANGRY and craving carbs + nut butter like nobody’s business:
Sunflower seed butter and bananas on French Meadow Women’s bread, Gala apple
I devoured this before showering, then helped myself to an entire pint of fresh sliced strawberries:
And some protein cookie dough (1 scoop Spirutein cookie dough protein powder, 1 T cocoa powder, enough water to mix):
A bit later I headed up to the Bronx to see the BF. Several chunks of dark chocolate Easter bunny, as well as a Tootsie roll, were consumed before we decided to stop giving ourselves diabetes and find some real food. We headed to one of our favorite places, Michelangelo’s, for my favorite pizza:
“Pizza insalate”: lettuce, onions, tomatoes and black olives atop a pile of amazingly fresh tomato sauce and the best pizza crust known to man
I also had two slices of bruschetta and a brewski…perfect dinner. Afterwards, we headed to a little Italian pastry shop for dessert, where I had a coffee and we split this bad boy:
Chocolate mousse cake. To die for.
I’m so lucky to have a boyfriend who lets me eat all of the icing J Afterwards, we headed to a party at one of his friends’ houses, where I indulged in a few too many brews and did damage on this pile of treats:
I’ve been secretly sad over the lack of Easter candy I indulged in this spring, so after about twenty of those minuature eggs, I consider myself satisfied. I also had endless handfuls of trail mix- why does this food always seem to make itself available when alcohol is around?
Today I managed to sleep in a little, then enjoyed a leisurely breakfast while catching up on your glorious lives:
Kashi GoLean, FRESH raspberries and almond milk
Today was a rest day to recover from yesterday’s run, but I was feeling a little tight and knew that stretching my legs would do wonders. I headed out and took a gorgeous half-hour walk, stopping at Starbucks for a tall soy latte. Perfection. I came home and snacked on an apple while getting ready for a bloggie meetup:
I met Marina from A Veggie Girl (And her cat), Missy from Missy Maintains and Coronae from Run. Write. Therapy. Life for lunch at Wild Ginger in SoHo. I chose the Eggplant and Green Bean in Basil Ginger Sauce Lunch Special, which came with a bowl of miso soup:
I ate everything but about half the rice. It was delicious! I used to hate eggplant, but I’ve come to love it. The company was great, as well- it was fun to meet fellow bloggers and discuss bloggy topics! And I loved not getting weird looks from my dining companions when I snapped a pic of my food J Thank you so much to Marina for organizing the meetup!
I had a banana when I came home as an afternoon snack:
Excuse the crappy pic…roomie was napping!
After a little bit of homework, I made myself a tempeh salad beast for dinner:
Lettuce, tomato, cucumber, olives, humnut sauce and ½ block of Lightlife tempeh
Plus a plum and dark chocolate for dessert. I’ve finished the remaining 4 squares of the bar while writing this…chocolate makes good brain food!
Well chicas, it’s been real. I’ve got a final paper proposal due tomorrow and a 5 page creative writing piece in French due Tuesday, so I better get to it! Have a great Monday!
What’s your ideal pizza? I like a thin but doughy crust, with fresh tomato sauce and lots of veggies!
For you runners out there, how do you transport snacks? I’m thinking a granola bar in the sports bra probably isn’t the most efficient idea…anyone have tips for carrying things, as well as gel/bean recommendations?

Great run girl! I know, I have to remind myself to constantly check the temp before leaving the house....because I assume sunny = really warm...when really, I should know better. haha :-D That chocolate mousse cake looks amazing!
wow! you're blog posts are like a stream of consciousness gone food-gasm. ;)
Gabriela what a post...loved everything! The fact that you got to meet up with other bloggers at such a great place..wow, so awesome. Blogger meetups are the best!
Thx for the linkback and for the protein info that you get the hemp at tj's, both choc and vanilla. awesome info. I need to get it...
And that you're making spirutein cookie dough..nice!
Snacks? I dont bother. I fuel well pre and post and just deal on the actual run/exercise b/c honestly, it's only a few hrs...I'll survive is my approach but i realize, doenst work for everyone!
i loveeee teh banana pic. i don't know why! hahah.
anyways, i run with a running pack, so i just shove larabars and nuts in there. =D
You had quite the eventful weekend, huh?! Way to go on the run! 12 miles is HUGE :)
My favorite pizza? Well, I've never been known to discriminate ;) But I've got to say that I'm a thin-crust lover too. I think my favorite would have to be a classic plain or margarita. I also enjoy white pizza with ricotta cheese and veggies. YUM!
fav pizza is def basil, mozzarella and lots of marinara with extra tomato slices...tasty tasty!
Whereee do you get humnut sauce?
I'm all about the clif shot blocks...but a little processed as well. Usually I just stick to eating something before a run then immediately after!!
The perfect pizza is all about the crust!! Thats my favorite part!! :)
We've had the same weather here too! It dropped like 20 degrees and the wind was insane...I didn't get the memo either.
As far as gel/beans go, different things work for different people but personally...the thought of it makes me gag. I use a sports drink so I'm drinking my sugar :D
chocola coma! that cakes, those eggs -- oh dear me, I can't stop drooling!
p.s. I am in love with the fact that you carried your bar in your bra. Gotta do what you gotta do for snackage!
love you sweetie :)
Congrats on the run girl!!!So I actually think that the bar in the bra is genius, I can't believe I never thought of that! I would always stash fuel and water in my mail box and do a loop that would go by my house, it worked.
The chocolate cake looks amazingly delicious!
And the bloggie meet up sounds like fun!! It must be nice to not get the strange looks haha
As for pizza, the crust HAS to be doughy and my favorite comes from the places where they cook them in a brick oven.. makes for an unbelieveably crispy but still doughy pizza, yum!
Have a great week and good luck with all the school work!!!
Love you!
yummmy eats, lady! LOVING the frozen berries-- I've had them every morning for the pats two weeks
i hope you have a relaxing sunday evening, lovely.
It was great meeting you today hun! Glad you could come! :)
Oh, and anytime you want me to give you a tour of veggie restaurants downtown, just let me know!
I love that pizza, it looks so fresh and delicious! And chocolate mini eggs + me = dangeroud combo haha I love those things :P Glad you had a nice weekend and a fun bloggie meetup!
Your Women's bread always makes me smile haha and you know what i've never tried? The sunflower butter, it sounds/looks good though.
I love that you dipped into the easter treats after a few too many brews. I'm the queen of drunk feasting. One night I came home after the bar and my Man found me attempting to burn the condo down with my BURNT pot of Oat Bran on the stove. I started cooking and passed out. Ooops.. haha
12 miles CONGRATS GIRLIIEE!
totally jealous of your BF too, he sounds AWESOME!
as for running snacks, i usually dont either, but i havent run more than 6-7 miles at a time. althoo, i cant really stomach much before, during or AFTER a run (super sensitive tummy!) so i did have these Sharkies sports gummy/chews during a 10k I did once. I popped a couple in and got a quick buzz of energy.
maybe try those?
-Lisa
A Pizza Salad would make me giddy with joy!! That is the best concept ever. I love a pizza chock full of veggies. I mean, why not!?
I've never had a snack while running. I always lose my appetite completely during runs. That being said, I've never run more than 8 miles before. I would probably hold it in my hand. It would get drenched in my bra--even in a plastic baggie :)
Haha...nice use of the sports bra. I usually put my phone and credit card in a plastic baggie and stick that in my bra. During my run today, I was getting a little hungry and I almost stopped to get a sample of frozen yogurt for free! I gotta say, I love BBQ chicken pizza and then just plain old papa john's cheese pizza! Have a great night, girl!
Had so much fun meeting you guys too :)
I always transport stuff in my bra, lol. I also have an amphipod running pack I wear around my race on longer runs -- it holds a water bottle and has a BIG pocket (I can fit my phone, ID, and multiple snacks). Good luck :)
Great great job on the run! I can't believe your stamina! I would have been passed out 2 miles in!
And all of your meals- divine. I love the pizza and dessert especially. I've had a pizza like that from California Pizza Kitchen and I loved it- it has a parmesan-romano crust that I just couldn't get enough of. But I'm sure that yours was probably a lot better since it wasn't a chain restaurant.
And dessert is always welcome! It's nice to be able to share, too!
My favorite pizza is the margherita from Pietro's in Philly!!
My ieal
I like my pizza the exact same as you, just make sure there's some basil on there.
I often transport my keys in my sports bra when I bike to yoga, but that's a different situation altogether. fanny packs are in these days, you know!! hah
Yay for bloggie meet ups!! Glad you had fun!
I've never brought food - I don't go on these awesomely long runs like you. :)
I love the salad pizza! My current favorite is tomato, pesto and basil... nom!
Congrats on your great run! Even though the weather probably made it a bit difficult, it will only make you stronger :D. Oh, and that pizza looks AMAZE! I actually just found a place that makes vegan and gluten free pizza so now that you've incited a craving in me, I will get to fulfill it yay!
Have a lovely day!
xox
Looks like you had an AMAZING weekend! Congrats on the run, girl!!!
My fav pizza is super thin crust, tons of veggies, soy cheese, and pestp (sans parmesan, I'm allergic booo)
Have a great week! <3
fun blogger meetup - i had one over the weekend as well. my fave pizza is from pepe's in new haven - great crust. they make a terrific no sauce white clam one. to die for.
Ack, I HATe running in the wind...it's such a turn-off for me. I don't like running INTO that blasting wind chapping my skin! Ee!
Aw, blogger meet-up...sounds like so much fun!
I love a thin-crust pizza, too, unless the crust is super amazing, like a glutinous or sweet potato crust. I love a spunky, gourmet, interesting pizza with different and adventurous toppings.
CONGRATS on your 12 miler girl!! That is seriously awesome, you're inspiring me big time! My fave pizza is a thin crust Margherita! Simple yet amazingly good! Mmm makes me want some right now :)
Hello super gorgeous 12 mile runner! THAT IS SO AWESOME... great job on your long run and I do not think that the bar in the bra is gross at all.. it is in a wrapper after all.
I tried that protein cookie dough for the first time last night... hello awesome!! Thanks to April I have a new protein recipe obsession!
Looks like you had quite the weekend! Hope you have a great week now too!
Congrats on the awesome run! Ha love the bar in the bra. Have a great Monday!
I'm so glad to hear that you remember to stretch-the Mom in me always feels the need to remind the youngsters in the blogging world to remember their stretches!
yay blogger meet up! next time...PICS of you beauitiful gals pleaseeee!
that chocolate mousse.. YUM
favorite pizza is thin crust, nice and crispy with TONS of veggies including fresh arugala and caramlized onion!!
Aww, what a fun weekend! I'll have to check out that Wild Ginger place; it looks great.
Pizza: very thin crust, lots of good tomato sauce, goat cheese, basil, and a ton of mushrooms.
Ohmigosh, we ARE snacky twins!
Your weekend sounds insanely fun, despite the wind tunnel headband loss. Bloggie meet up and insane eats, plus fun with the boy!
I'm not a huge pizza person since cheese is kind of a toss up for me, but I love lots of tomato sauce! I could eat it straight up!
Have a good Monday girl!
That pizza looks to die for as does the little Italian pastry :) The best pizza that I have ever had was when I lived in Sweden.. the crust was thin but still doughy with the perfect tomato sauce, prosciutto, artichoke hearts, spinach and olives. I went back a week later! haha..
I read this sentence about 8 times before I realized you meant sports BAR:
"I chowed this smooshed and warmed sports-bra"
Haha!
I missed you so much too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
God for you on your 12 mile run!! I dont know how you do it girl, I give you so much credit!!!
Love the chocolate candy goodies you enjoyed, we all deserve to enjoy stuff like that and not regret it! Life is too short to not eat chocolate and icecream!! lol!!
Hope you have a great day!!!
I loved the pink flower on the sake bottle Mike got me too, it was the reason he bought it, he knows I love pink, hope its good sake!!
xoxoxo
Haha I love the "stop giving ourselves diabetes" line, so funny:) I'm glad you had fun at the meet-up and I look forward to seeing you tomorrow!!!
Looks like a great weekend you had! Pizza, beer, bf, friends, blogger meet-up...what more could you ask for?! ;)
I love your honesty and all the questions you prompt in this blog, seriously!!
Also, I was bummed about my lack of easter candy, too. I don't think I blew up ONE PEEP in the microwave this year, lol! :D
Easter candy and overindulging tend to go hand in hand...hey whatever you were making up for lost time right?? :)
Great meeting you! Hope we can meet again soon! Favorite pizza is thin crust with mushrooms, spinach and goat cheese!
hey my east coast sista!! your weekend sounds so FUN!!! my favorite pizza is thin rust LOADED with soggy veggies! :)
for transporting fuel i put dried apricots in a tiny snack sized ziploc and put that in my little shorts pocket...I try to fuel a lot before, so I usually don't get hungry while running!
and THANK YOU THANK YOU again!!! I loveeeees u!
xoxo!
GREAT job on the 12 miles!!! That is seriously amazing/inspiring!!! When's the race btw?
ps: what's that humnut sauce?? Looks delish!
Sounds like you had a great a weekend and glad to hear you got to indulge on some chocolate! A girl def needs her chocolate ;)
That bloggie meet up looks like it was wonderful..Oh how I wish I lived in NY!!
Good luck with all of your school work.
I still have not eaten adequate quantities of Easter candy. I would've done serious damage to that eggs!
My fave pizzas have thin crispy crusts and whacky toppings.
Great job on that run!! What a great feeling! I'm glad you got to kick back and indulge afterwards, too. That makes it SO rewarding.
I like a million veggies on my pizza and not much sauce.
My favorite pizza is thin, crispy, and coated with green peppers and onions. Such good drunk food!
I'm so impressed by your 12 mile achievement! I'm not sure about a better way to transport snacks, although I wish I had the ability to carry a zbar in my bra!
Congrats on the LONG run:) Yay!!!
I had to break down and get a fuel belt for my long runs. It takes some getting used to running in, but it does have a pocket to stash snacks:) I've been eating Lara bars and peppermint patties on my runs. Although, I like the vanilla bean GU.
I LOVE pizza. It was my post-run meal after my 16 miler. I really like it any and all ways. I like thin and thick dough. My favorite toppings are veggies and turkey pepperoni.
