Almost there...

Hello my lovely ladies, happy hump day! I can’t wait for tomorrow at 11 am, when I’ll be free for spring break!!

Thanks for all your packed lunch suggestions! Salad beasts sound like a hit, so I may have to start trying some out! I just hope I can fit a Tupperware that big into my school bag!

Breakfast today was identical to yesterday’s, but nonetheless delicious!

Simply Fiber with raspberries and almond milk

After inhaling this beauty, I decided to enjoy the gorgeous weather and go for a run. Since I left my Garmin at home to make sure I wouldn’t forget it over spring break, I have no idea how far or fast I ran. It kind of felt good to not worry about my pace or distance! I just enjoyed my forty minutes of sunshine, solitude and avoiding reckless cab drivers.

Before I left for classes, I made a yogurt mess. This girl’s lunchtime messes inspired me to create my own!

Container of plain Whole Soy & Co. yogurt, Ezekiel Golden Flax cereal, sliced banana, Naturally More PB topped with cinnamon; sliced apple on the side (obv)

Afterwards, I skiddadled to class and spent all of 18th c French Lit pretending to take serious notes so the teacher wouldn’t call on me. Let’s just say I’m about…half a book behind in the reading. Snackage between classes was a Jocalat Larabar:

Plus another container of daylight robbery pineapple that went unpictured. I figured it might be a little bizarre to snap a pic of my fruit while cramming for my exam with my classmates. The exam was another weird one; I ended up totally blanking on the order of the Louis and Henris, which completely messed up my ordering of their walls. Luckily, I can’t imagine that I’ll have to call on this knowledge at any point in my life, so it’s all good.

After my test, I met Jillian for a much-needed early dinner at Maoz Vegetarian! Maoz is a veggie restaurant that specializes in falafel. That was all I needed to hear to know I’d love it! I went with the “salad box combination.” In addition to the standard lettuce, 5 falafel balls, hummus and slices of eggplant that come with it, I went nuts at the toppings bar:

Lettuce, falafel, hummus, eggplant, pickles, artichokes, olives, broccoli, cuke + tomater salad, carrots, green salsa, cilantro, tomato onion sauce and chickpeas

Holy yum was this delicious! I think it may even beat Eva’s, simply for the create-your-own factor. I’m in love with Jillian for introducing me to this place. It’s awesome to have a friend that’s always up for veggie eats! She and I discussed plans to live together next year, which I would love. Hopefully it all works out!
I came home and had my standard apple slices with sunflower seed butter for dessert. Nothing y’all haven’t seen before. Since then, I’ve been tackling my laundry, packing for home and catching up on my Google Reader. Procrastination, much? I’ve got my last midterm tomorrow and I’m just a tad burnt out. I have a feeling some late-night cramming will be in order, probably fueled by some Panda Puffs. And by probably, I mean definitely. So long for now, chicas! Have a great Thursday and I’ll talk to you next from the big red comfy couch :)

What’s your take on vegetarian restaurants? Do you like them, or would you rather have some meat with your meal? I’m all about the veggie restaurants, though I must admit their fries are never as good…

Spring break is the best! Are you going anywhere or staying at home? I'm not gonna lie, I'm on break right now, and I'm perfectly content with being a semi-bum :) And I've never been to a veg restaurant, but I get kinda freaked out by fake meat, so I'm not sure how'd I like it...

I like Vegetarian restaurants but I think a lot of them approach it wrong. I think there should be sensible "normal" stuff on the menu that would appeal to vegetarians/vegans AND omnivores. I took my parents to a vegetarian restaurant once and the whole menu was tempeh, quinoa, fake meats, etc. and they thought it was weird lol

Yay!! Spring Break! :)

I always pass Maoz and am curious about it; Mamoun's is pretty ubiquitous for falafel, but it can be hit or miss (hit being amazing and unreal falafel, miss being just average).

I love vegetarian and vegan restaurants, mostly because I love vegetables and rarely ever crave meat. Plus the entrees always seem so much more flavorful and creative. Gobo and Hangawi are two of my favorite restaurants in the city, and both are completely vegan; and as a non-vegan or vegetarian, that really speaks to the quality and creativity of the food.

Thanks for the mention girlie! Looove my yogurt messes :) Yours sounds fabulous!!

Runs like that are awesome... they are so relaxing. It really gets you in tune with yourself. I've done a lot of deep thinking on runs like that...

Haha "taking serious notes," good technique. I avoid eye contact and look like i'm thinking deep thoughts.. it usually prevents me from being called on :)

That restaurant sounds awesome!! I'd love to go to one like that but we don't have many (aka none) around here :(

Good luck with your last exam!!!!

i actually would love some beef tar-tare as an appetizer when i go out...KIDDING!

girl, as a high raw vegan, id be thrilled to go somewhere where vegetarain or vegan does NOT mean a pound of pasta and an iceburg lettuce salad.

NYC = the best veg eating anywhere, and San Fran is great, So Cal and San Diego/LA are okay, but AZ omg it's hellish. It sucks. And then some.

glad u liked the noooooochhhh post!! woot!

I love veggie restaurants because I do not eat meat.. so clearly I would love the bigger selection than a normal restaurant. Although I find myself frequenting normal restaurants more than the veg variety. It is fun once in awhile though!

Sounds like you are having fun! Enjoy your break girl!

We have an AWESOME vegan/vegetarian restaurant (they have options for both) in Athens where I go to school. I am not a vegetarian by any means, but everything on the menu is delicious and sometimes its nice to have a little change of pace!
Haha, pretending to take serious notes is one of my best class talents...that and hiding the ten crossword puzzles i'm working on.
Good luck getting through the rest of the week, you're almost there girl!

SPRING BREAK! I can't wait either ;) good luck with wrapping everything up! As for veggie restaurants, I love them because I've found that the food is even more creative and quality-ensured than others, since they probably have a harder time convincing the omnis :) but seafood calls my name every now and again!

Great work on all your exams Gabriella - so glad you have Spring Break just around the corner. Our Law Faculty does Spring Break back in January, so I'm kind of sad it's gone already!

I adore vegetarian restaurants - we have one on campus that is the perfect lunch spot. Amazing lentil soup, baked samosas and spelt-oats-cinnamon date squares!

mmm I love vegetarian restaurants! I am always on board for meals that are packed with veggies and incorporate new and fun ways of cooking them. Most restaurants lack that.
Have an awesome Thursday, my dear!

I agree that Mamoun's is great! As far as vegetarian restaurants/dishes, I have to be in the right mood and it has to be something hearty. I like a burger that doesn't pretend to be meat but just is what it is, whether that's bean, rice, potato or quinoa! TJs masala burgers are super good!

specializes in falafels? oh hells yes! i'm all about veg places :)

Love, love veggie houses! I actually have walked by that place you went for dinner tonight, back in my nyc day... but yeah looked it up online and they have a place in london so i may just have a chance to check it out soon ;)
Looks deeeeelish and def jealous of those eats! take care!

I haven't really been to too many veggie restaurants, just veggie-friendly. So I guess I can't really judge that.

And happy spring break, mine was this week! Have fun!

I definitely would love a veg restaurant. Unfortunately, I've never been to one! Hopefully that will change sometime in the near future. :)

I've never been to a vegetarian restaurant but would love to try one! I feel like I have this phobia that I CAN'T get full unless the mail contains a 'meat' and I just don't believe that's true - must get over it!

As I type this, I think you are 2 hours away from break. Yippee!!!
I like veggie restaurants for the options they have, but I have eaten some of my best meals at "regular" restaurants!

I love Maoz! I am a huge fan of create your own! The only way to go is nuts with the toppings at Maoz. Just think sun, sun, sun and I hope your midterm went well!

I want to go on Spring Break! This working stuff sucks!

To be honest I don't think I've ever eaten at a vegetarian restaurant...hmmm!

I loves me some vegetarian restaurants. When I can order anything on the menu and not have to ask, "Is it made with a meat base?" I'm a happy camper!

When you get back from spring break we should hit up some of New York's finest veg restaurants!!

Ashlei said...

I still need to try the Chocolate Hazelnut Jocalat bar!

And yes please to the vegetarian restaurants. Otherwise the options are such slim pickin's for non-meat eaters. :/

i love maoz...some veggie restaurants are great and others are just so-so...pretty hit and miss, but NYC probz has a higher average of "hits"

Get ready for it: NEVER EATEN AT A VEGGIE RESTAURANT. Wah! Let's just say, I don't have many friends that would be interested in joining me in dining at one.

[Reason #23049832097348237 I need a blogger meet-up in my life!]

Maoz recently opened on my block and I cannot stop going there! There's also one opening up next to my college's campus which means I will officially become an addict haha.

Have a great spring break and we should def meet up when you get back:)

wahoo for you and spring break :) i hope you have a wonderful time!

veggie restaurants are AMAZING. maybe that's a bit biased, though, coming from a vegan. anywho, if you ever come to michigan, you need to try Inn Season. it's my favorite (and practically the only) veggie restaurant and feel likes you're in someone's cozy, eclectic house. do you have a favorite veggie restaurant or meal at a veggie restaurant that you would recommend?

oh, and jocalats are the best! i adore the chocolate hazelnut, too. if you like them a lot, i would definitely recommend the larabar cocoa mole. it's spicy, but not overly so. trust me, you'll never want a chocolate bar again.

have a lovely day (and spring break!)
